Just needing to vent again-
We were driving to my mom's house for dinner, and my husband put on a CD in the car that he knows makes me nuts even when I'm feeling OK (It's progressive jazz- has no melody, and just sounds like a bunch of noise to me- makes me anxious and irritable).  Fortunately, I was able to tune it out, but I was annoyed that he would even put it on, knowing that my anxiety is at a real high! He is so supportive usually, so I just didn't feel like picking a fight over it- but it just makes me realize how people that don't have A/P have a really hard time understanding what it is like!!

Hi a.l
Here's a wee hint lol..make the cd have an accident of the 'big scratch' variety - or maybe disappear mysteriously lol

hi a.l. I don't like progressive jazz either and yet I am a singer/musician. My nephew becomes mezmerized by jazz. It's funny how for some it relaxes and other it irritates. Hope you have a Jazz-free day today. :)

Well, no jazz so far this week!! Yippee!! tongue I certainly couldn't take it this week- between learning the new job, my son waking me up at 3:30 am the last 2 nights (and not getting back to sleep), and PMS, I am a little unnerved, to say the least. So, he is in big trouble if he tries to put that CD on!! LOL

if its soothing lounge music jazz, it should relax you even if you don't like it. Put in a cd of something you both like and be in the car first to put it in

Jazz! Yeah. I went to a college that was HUGE on Jazz and I learned to like it very much even if I never went so far as to buy records or whatever. There were always these great combos playing in the dorm lobby...mostly 19 or 20 year old prodigies. It was great.

These days I can't listen to it all if I'm having a panic attack. I'm not sure what "progressive" jazz is, even, but all jazz is experimental and heavy on improvisation. Normally I love it but while anxious it just becomes a huge mess. A cacophony. Same goes for some of my favorite bands like Sonic Youth...just can't handle it.

When having a panic attack I typically don't like music at all, actually. Occasionally if I'm beginning to have an attack and can get to a guitar, playing it seems to ward it off. Weird, huh?
