I started a discussion in the chronic pain chat room last night about the variance between anxiety and stress. The general consensus was that they were one in the same. This generally adheres to my beliefs.

The question arises with regards to drugs. Stressed out people aren't usually taking Valium or Xanax (or at least I don't think so). People with anxiety are. Something must be different, right or not?

I don't get panic attacks. My main stress/anxiety symptoms is cold and sweaty hands and feet. It can be humiliating when I need to shake a hand in a business meeting or my acupuncturist wants to do something to my feet.

Can anyone offer some insight about what I should bring up with my doctor? I don't know if I'm, stressed, anxiety-ridden, or a sweaty person. How pooped do these drugs make you? I already take Lortab and Zanaflex during the day that slow me down.

I appreciate any insight.

Regards,
Stephanie

If you dont have anxiety attacks IMHO I would not add any meds but try some differerent self help things such as CBT relaxation and reading some books
Check out on Resources about the books
I personally am both and have big panic attacks so I do take the odd valium or ativan ONLY when needed as I too am on major opiates for my crohns and other DD I have
Talk about all your symptoms with doc always be open and honest it is the only way to be properly dx
I wish you all the best
Keep us posted
You take care
