I was just curious...is there anyone else out there, besides me, who is getting over meningitis and is experiencing anxiety from it?

I know its a 6-9 month, possibly year long battle till all of the physical symptoms subside, but its hard to continue to put a smile on the face when I feel miserable all the time....

Ive also noticed that it almost seems cyclical, every couples weeks, when it really gets bad and I end up sobbing, then I feel a bit refreshed...and I continue on.

The neurologist said all of the symptoms (headaches, neck pain, eye pain, anxiety, etc..) will all go away over time...   But is there anyone else out there who can shed some light on their own experiences with meningitis?

Thanks...!!

I've had viral meningitis, but not bacterial. Bacterial's pretty serious from what I understand, so congratulations on getting through the worst of it.

The thing about having a long-term illness is health anxiety. I bring it up because it happened to me (not just b/c of viral meningitis -- something else), although it probably doesn't happen to most people who get sick. If you're concerned about that you may want to consider a stint of psychotherapy just for good measure.

I was diagnosed with viral as well, not bacterial...thank God. But from what I was told and read, some of the same lingering affects are the same between the two. I think I keep hoping that its something that will dissipate, but I guess when dealing with the brain, all senses, nerves, feelings, and emotions can be affected, and therefore takes time for everything to heal it itself and return to "normal". I have been talking with a MH therapist about the anxiety, which helps, but was wondering how others with meningitis have been fairing...

Oh. I had viral meningitis when I was sixteen and it was pretty easy for me to get over. The only symptom I can remember having was my neck wouldn't turn without a whole lot of pain shooting through my head. It was weird. Within a week it was gone completely, though. Maybe it was a mild strain or the disease is just a lot harder on adults...

I did find this on the interweb net:
That site is pretty good. There's a section that you can pay to ask a doctor something like that guy did, but there's also a "patient to patient" section. I bet if you asked over there some people will have been what you're going through.

Good luck!

edit: I'm bored at work today and am just surfing around wasting time. I noticed that the above mentioned "medhelp" site has a doctor patrolled forum called "Disaster Preparedness". It's free to post in that one, and people ask questions in there that aren't related to disasters at all. He answers anyway, it appears. And his Curriculum Vitae is pretty impressive (Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Stanford U. Med Center...graduated from Brown medical school). I know talking to him wouldn't be the same as hearing from people who have recovered from meningitis, but he may know a thing or two about what's normal for the process.
** Debaser I had to edit that link as it is another Forum such as HW not with all the DD but still a ppl forum you can put your email addy in the side under you name and have ppl get it from you that way just have them email okay

Well, I'm not sure why posting a link to a another moderated forum is against the rules (it's just another resource) but if it is, it is. No problem.

I think I've left enough information for him/her to find the site, and I still recommend it because it has a general "neurology" forum whereas HealingWell does not. For this particular illness I think she has better chance of finding answers there than she does here.
