Hi there,

I think iv'e just had an anxiety attack, starting with a headache, then heart palpatations, sweating palms and a feeling of sheer panic.

I lay down, which doesn't really make it go away, tried to relax and breath deeply.  I think it's waring off although my head feels like a tight band is wrapped around it and I have this metalic taste in my mouth?

Anyone else have these symtoms?

I usually keep rinsing or brushing teeth to get it to go away

Thanks Lynne, reasuring as I start thinking the worst as I haven't experienced the metalic taste before.

Do you ever get a very tight feeling in your head, like a band around it and a constant tingling in the head? Sorry to be asking all these questions but I'm going through one now and not coping very well.

The tastes:

I guess it could be neurological, but it's probably just stomach acids and stuff. When you get all anxiety-ridden, it probably just makes you reflux a bit. I have it during some attacks and it's really, really hard to get rid of. I also have many of the same tastes when my GERD has been acting up with or without panic attacks. Anyway, if it's bile or acid reflux, laying down will NOT help unless you're on an incline. You can try an antacid, of course.

I don't get the tight feeling around my head usually, but I think I've had it once or twice.

edit: and when I said "neurological" I didn't mean there's something wrong with your brain or anything. I just meant that your brain, due to the anxiety attack, could be causing you to taste things that aren't there. Just like it causes your heart to speed up or whatever normally happens to you in a panic attack.

Thanks for that

I will try an anti acid although the metalic taste appears to have worn off now, thank god! I'm just left with severe tingling in my head, and freezing cold sweaty hands. I would love to know what brings these attacks on. I was just sitting with my little boy watching something on tv and I felt it creeping up on me, it just shouldn't happen, I'm sick of it! It's ruling my life and I don't know what to do?

I'm pleased you clarified the "neurological" statement I wondered what you meant!
Oddly enough it made me laugh, not panic, perhaps that's a good sign! Iv'e hear'd that people can laugh themselves well!

Thanks for that

Well the tight feeling and tingling appear to be also wearing off. This must be the shortest attack Iv'e had on record. Scary just the same, but it has helped enormously talking it through and reading about all the other fellow sufferers on this site. This really is a great site and I hope it helps others as much as it is helping me.

Oops spoke too soon the tingling in my head is back, but I'm not going to panic and it's going to take over me. Strange though, no matter how much I use positive mental thinking it still doesn't move the ba......td!

I think I just have to learn that every twitch, every tingle, every palpatation, every dizzy spell, palm sweating, head throbbing, metalic tasting is hopefully not going to kill me!
