PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! sad
I am currently having severe anxiety including constant chest pain.  Yesterday I went to the doctors after leaving work early because of a panic attack.  The doctor, at first, told me that it could be that my chest cavity was bruised from coughing but....I wasn't coughing and hadn't been coughing any time recently.  I asked her about anxiety, and like any other, she gave me a prescription for xanax.  I am very sensitive to medication and am nervous to take this.  I am wondering if this medicine is only good to use at night time????  Or could you take it while having an attack to take the edge off and still function?????  and I would also like to know if anybody knows if this medicine makes you groggy?????

I think it will make you groggy at first but after taking it a while it gets better. I've never taken Xanax but LOTS of people here have and I'm sure they'll let you know what to expect.

I will say that someone who was qualified to know told me that all the benzodiazapines (such as Xanax) aren't nearly as powerful as you think they may be. You don't want to take one and go on a road trip, however. You need to see how you react to it first.

But lots of people function on Xanax. My mom's been on it for years and has ascended the corporate ladder like a mad woman.

Xanax is a great med to help with A/P
You should ty it first at night when you have really nothing to do to see how you react
Most ppl can and do take it on a daily basis one or more times a day
Please keep us posted on how you make out ....

xanax is a very useful valium type med, it can be taken in advance of a situation likely to cause anxiety, also some of us carry a few tablets with us and disolve 1 under the tongue if a panic attack suddenly starts, the taste isnt too bad, but some generic versions have a bitter taste to encourage children to spit it out, but this can actually be an advantage if you concentrate on the taste, it helps to disract you

xanax comes in different strength tablets

when you get a panic attack, relax, accept, breathe deep and slow   dont tense up or fight back, wait for it to pass then get on with your day

the first few tablets may make you feel drunk or drugged, if so, reduce the dose, you will get used to them soon, for most of us, a tablet lasts about 3 hours

WELL! I took the xanax last night - I only took 1/2 of it to see how i would react.  I was able to get some sleep but I still woke up like 3 or 4 times, calmed myself down and fell back asleep.  I didn't really notice a huge difference but the dr. prescribed me .25 and i took 1/2 of that so it may not have been strong enough - i am going to take it again tonight if i need too.  Thanks again for the feedback

I take xanax, I have for years. .25 mg is a small dose. It acts fast and only last a few hours. It usually will not make you too sleepy.

Hey geeper, I too take Xanax on an as needed basis for anxiety/panic...and I have chest pain also but I do have heart problems so it is difficult to tell if it is my heart or my anxiety, who knows maybe it is both.  Anyway, your dosage is the smallest amount they make the .25mg tablet.  I am also sensitive to medications which is weird since I take so many...but I have 1 mg of Xanax and often at night will just take a whole one if I feel I need to get a little better sleep.  However, during the day a whole 1 mg still will make me very drowsy even during an anxiety attack so I have to be very careful of how much I take and where I am at when I take them.  I do often break them in half an take half or even quarters...but since you have .25 if you are breaking them up and trying them at night then you may not really be able to get to know what kind of effect they are having on you since your sleeping.  You may want to try taking it on a day that you have off from work like a weekend or something like that where you dont have a lot to do and see how it works for you that way.
Good luck with it I hope they help for you...they have for me greatly.  Take care and do keep posting everyone here is so supportive and kind :-)
