It is very common for a person suffering a panic attack to think there is something wrong with their heart. I tell myself these days that it is just anxiety, it cannot hurt me and I will be ok.

Anxiety = Adrenaline and Adrenaline is just a hormone.

Thats the way I see it. Anxiety and Panic can only go on for so long. It reaches its peak and then starts to come back down again. Try to tell yourself that it is anxiety and that you will be fine and that it cannot hurt you.

Thanks your for your encouragement i have been looking for people to offer me some insight on this i see a physciotrist every 2 weeks and all he wants to do is feed me medicine i have looked into light therapy and breathing excercises to try and relieve myself of this illness but the fear is so overwelming that its hard to sit still long enough to totally finish the excercises. I tell myself every day i will overcome this i have never been a strong person mentally but ITS TIME TO START!

Thats a good attitude to have. I like your positivity. I did a thread called 'relaxation techniques' - have a look at it and get some tips on breathing exercises.
Try and stay positive - you will get through this. I never thought I would get any better but I have.

Keep in touch with us here.

P0tluck,

Welcome to healingwell!  You will definitely find people who are going through the same things you are and are very helpful here.  I've had panic attacks/anxiety and agoraphobia for about 17 years, on and off, and have been where you are right now many times.  I agree with victoria, you have to begin to accept that what you are feeling is only panic, that it's not a physical disease or illness and that it will pass.  This past November, I was exactly where you are now...terrified every minute of the day, feeling like I was dying or going crazy, all the symptoms of panic just hitting over and over.  Once I started talking to myself in a positive way and telling myself it's only panic and can't hurt me, I began to improve.  You may not believe what your telling yourself at first, and it does not work immediately, but if you keep at it and hang in there, it begins to help.  I'm doing so much better now, haven't had a panic attack since December, my daily anxiety is slim to none and I'm getting out of the house again.  It just takes time and patience for your new way of thinking to start to work.  If you like to read, my favorite books are by Claire Weekes, she has a way of describing panic/anxiety in a very easy to understand way and her words can be such a comfort when you are in a bad way.  I hope that you will continue to come here, like I said there are some very supportive people here and feeling less alone in this is such a help.  Take care and hang in there!

Hi P0tluck, welcome here to this site. it is a wonderful site with amazing, supportive and caring people. i have been suffering with panic disorder for 13 years along with the agoraphobia.Iknow how terrifying it can be. dont let this get a grip of you. 5 months seems long but if you can control it now hopefully it wont get the best of you. now that i look back i let the fear controll  me. We need to take a stand against it. I know it is  easier said than done, but if we dont it will win. i have done that so many times,  i let the fear win, but i am so sick and tired of it. Just continue to tell your self that you are well and all the tests prove it. we need to work on relaxing techniques, which i still have not conquered but it is what will help us calm down. when i am having bout of panic i keep in mind what i have learned on this site and what peolpe have advised me and it helps. i have gone to therapy and i feel that this site has helped me out more. (really)also if you are a believer of jesus christ we need to keep our faith in him as he also gets me through this battle. i hope and pray for you that you will over come this and to have strength. hope you are feeling better as each passing days goes by. God bless
