Hey, I don't think you are going mental. What these voices about? Does it scare you what they say or just that you can't stop them? I often hear my parents yell at each other in my thoughts. It drives me crazy that I can't stop it, but it is just the memory. It is very annoying not to be able to stop the voices, but they are just thoughts and for that they are no danger.

ordinary people often talk to themselves and sometimes out loud, this is normal

I started with the same feelings as you have when I was about 18 - I'm 59 now and haven't gone insane yet (although some people might argue that - ha).  I had the exact same worries about being permanently hospitalized and thought I heard voices too - but they were just thoughts that I magnified.  If you really were psychotic you wouldn't be questioning the voices - you'd be believing what they told you.  But I'm not trying to make light of your fear - I remember it being one of the scariest times in my life - for at that time I didn't realize it was all anxiety related - just thought I was going insane too.  Believe me, you're NOT - you're just one of millions of us who suffer with this horrible disease of anxiety/depression.  Are you taking anything for it?  It will get better trust me - I never thought it would and it has, and it's come back at times and gone away for years at a time.  But the more you educate yourself about what you're going through - the better you'll be able to deal with it if and when it returns again.  Good luck!

Hi,

It doesnt sound like your going insane to me. It sounds like you have a firm grip on reality. I have the same thing and it comes and goes. Sometimes it can last for weeks at a time, and sometimes it can go away for weeks at a time. But it is probably anxiety related rather than another psychotic disorder. They are (probably, since I don't know you and im not a doctor) simply memories that you replay in your mind. Probably for an unconscious reason. You can talk to your doctor if you feel you are not coping and he should be able to give you the help and support you need.

But rest assured, you are NOT going insane. If you are then so is the rest of the world! tongue

You aren't going insane, this can happen with anxiety sufferers. Too many thoughts going around yourhead at once can make your mind spin a bit and make you worry that you are going mad! IMO there is no such thing as 'mad' and when people are admitted to hospital with mental illness, to me they are ill, not mad.
Have you spoken to your doctor about this? If this continues and you aren't feeling any better, talk to your doctor about what you are feeling and he can offer you some help. Don't carry on with this alone.
