I know this question isn't concerning anxiety, but it is important to me...does anyone know WHY we crave certain foods? I admitted in another thread about how chocolate had been a source of contention for me, but I'm also craving red meat too! I feel like i could sit down and eat a steak raw almost! Of course, with my bad teeth (have a missing cap and can't afford a new one) it's not super easy to eat even if I get my hands on one!
So WHY am I craving chocolate and red meants so intensely? Is it really a matter of your body needing some sort of nutrient it's not getting? I do take vitamins and supplements already. I take chromium which is supposed to help with sugar cravingsm but I haven't seen any improvement. Folks, I'm big as it is and if I keep getting bigger, I'll be in trouble! I'm not exactly fit and I do have issues like hypertension and bad cholesterol. As for diabetes, I have it cuz I'm FAT. The doc told me if I'd lose weight, it wouldn't be an issue. Even now I don't have to take meds for it, but if my weight keeps going up...well, EEK!!!!
It's so easy for people to be judgmental and talk about self-discipline and the like, but it's almost like I'm compelled to raid the fridge and it doesn't help that my mom is OCD and refuses to let me cook in HER kitchen! Oh, it's such a loooong story as to all her quirky ways, but suffice to say that I'm between a rock and a hard place...

Perhaps you have mentally connection between certain foods and comfort or there are certain things released in foods like chocolate that induce comfort. Just a shot in the dark tho.

I think most people have cravings to certain foods, at least sometimes. Unfortunately, the only way to beat the craving IMHO is to get full.
