Hi I'm new here!!!! I have been prescribed Effexor for anxiety. My doctor wants me to "calm down" so my blood pressure will go down. I really don't want to take this stuff and I told him so today at my appointment he still says take it. I'm terrified of taking it. But I'm crying all the time lately and I don't know why!!! I have the generic brand Venlafaxine. Is this much different from the real thing? I want to ask for something else maybe Xanax would be better?? I don't know I just have a BAD feeling about Effexor cause of all the stuff I've read about it.

Welcome to HW
This is a great site and thee is so much support and fantastic ppl on here I am glad you found us

With the effexor I would ask for xanax or simuliar to get you thru til med kicks in ....it can take up to 4 to 6 weeks I believe ......

Many ppl have had great success with this med but as you know we are all different yet the same ya know

look back thru past threads on pages ........go to top and go to page 4 and up and I believe you will find a long thread on this if you cant let me know and I will bump it for you okay

Please do stay with us

Many are afraid to try meds due to what they read about them yet you need to remember that drug companies HAVE to put everything that could possibly happen on the list of side effects or there would be lawsuits I am sure

Most side effects are there as a prerequisite..........IMHO

Sounds like you may need something like xanax or valium / ativan to help you out now hun as the crying is not good as you know and you will only sink into severe despair

Please do stay with us and get the care and support you need right now and even later

Welcome again

My bp was up at the doctors office and I took my blood pressure later on at home when I was relaxed and it was 124/79. Although a couple months ago it was super high even when relaxed at home. I do have anxiety but maybe I just need something like Xanax to calm me down if I need it but usually deep steady breathing does the trick. I think I've been upset lately cause I've been worried about the Effexor. I forgot to mention that it's 37.5 mg. I'm planning on writing down my home blood pressure readings and taking that to my doctor on my appointment next week. I don't want to rush into taking ADs like he says cause I think the bp meds are doing their job. It just took a couple months. Sorry for rambling on, I'm done now!
