hey everybody...im back again. my whole situation has gotten me in a mess. for those who have read my story i said i was feeling aweful from the day after i had sex with the girl on and off until the four week mark. i had a boat load of "symptoms" of hiv. i had body aches, fatigue, loss of appetite, diarrhea...every a swollen lymph node (scared me the most). and every from the hiv forum keeps telling me that my problem is anxiety and that it is highly unlikely that i have hiv from that one encounter (considering it was my only one). but what really freaks me out now is that i don't have anymore of those symptoms, and they say that symptoms of hiv come on like a flu then leave and you don't have them again for a long time. so if im suffering from anxiety why have all those symptoms gone away? could it be that i was just so freaked out about getting those symptoms in the 2-4 weeks that my body made them happen, and that now that the 4 weeks has past my mind isn't giving me the symptoms anymore? talking with people has calmed me down quite a bit i dont think i am freaking out as bad as i was in those four weeks, i just want to know why im not feeling the way i did, i mean anxiety just doesn't go away like that...does it?

thanx for any info you can give me.

Sure, your anxiety can just go away. But it doesn't sound like it's gone away given your reference to being "freaked out". : )
This sounds like _classic_ health anxiety. I would recommend that you have a full physical, including blood work and an HIV test. If my suggesting that gives you a panic attack, then you've passed the test and suffer from health anxiety. : )
I say that only in half jest. Swollen lymph nodes are very common - body aches, fatigue, loss of appetite are common symptoms of the flu. When I was really anxiety ridden (because I was afraid I was dying) I would have diarrhea, stomach pains (duh) and would swear I had swollen lymph nodes. Later those symptoms went away and I was constipated. : )
You've been given a great opportunity to address some core issues in your life. Face them full on - lean into pain and take action! If you continue to have the anxiety, find a good counselor - they're out there.

I don't mean to sound patronizing, but I'm willing to bet you've had anxiety for longer than you're letting on. Maybe you didn't even notice it for what it was. Maybe it was so mild you didn't notice, and then this worrying spell really set it off.

In either case, it's very obvious you were suffering from anxiety when you were posting all the time about HIV, and I think you still are. Anxiety can come and go.

Did you not ask the woman you were with to have an HIV test? That would do a lot to alleviate your immediate source of anxiety. If she had enough of the virus in her to spread it to you, she'd test positive right now. Nurses and doctors chime in, but from what I know about it, it's nearly a certainty.

Try to take away your "excuses" to be worried.
