does anyone know if loud noises can trigger a panic attack? yesterday i was working and something fell to the ground and broke. the sound of the crashing object startled me and then my heart started to race and then i got shakey. the panic attack came on and i had to deal with customers. it was so difficult. i wanted to run away. then i calmed my self down and then another wave of anxiety came on. any advice. thanks

Absolutely they can. For me they didn't even have to be loud if they were repetitive and annoying. When you're fight/fligh mode is all screwed up and your anxiety level is elevated, a sudden loud noise will make you jump. In my experience that could sometimes put me over the edge.

I have definately been thrown into a panic attack by loud noises. Mostly the "sudden" type. I can be standing beside a construction site and be fine with it, but something simple like a pan falling off counter when I'm not looking and "boom". I *think* the wave thing is chemical related. Panic attacks are flight or fight responses of our bodies, and the body releases adrenaline and other chemicals... and like anything they have to run their course.
I'm not procrastinating----I'm still doing yesterday!!!!
