I cannot stop this anxiety!!! I am absolutely and constantly worried about going insane 24/7, and am realizing that drinking does in fact make it worse! Why do these thoughts and worries of going insane keep staying in my head?? I feel like its never gonna stop until i actually AM insane!

I realize that it is really stupid to be SO worried about this, since I know I am not crazy, just very very scared of it - along with panic attacks and severe anxiety!

i am probably not the only one here with these problems...anybody else???

thx

We've all been there, are you currently on any meds?

I find finding a good pdoc, getting a med that works for you to allow your mind and body a rest and then working on CBT is the best way to start healing yourself.

And NO you won't go insane from anxiety (I know it feels that way) as a psychologist once said to me 'you're neurotic not psychotic', there's a big difference between these illnesses.

I know the feeling...and even though I have an hard time dealing with it, especially with the proximity of the internet which I keep diagnosing myself with (bad idea bad ;-) )...
I sometimes have the impression of losing myself, of never being able to be back to my "old" me. However recently I also realized that I have been anxious since I was a child and I just try to keep positive thoughts. It's not easy, it's not always working but life is a roller coaster and I keep on telling myself that I cannot control everything...sorry for rambling, I hope you feel better soon. I know that there is a way that we can overcome or at least deal better with anxiety...anybody on this board who did ?

thanks a lot guys....a lot has happened to me the past few years (lost a great job, and a grandma) but i got another very similar job, so things are looking up.

I keep trying to tell myself that these are just thoughts, not reality.

And thanks for telling me that neurosis isnt insanity, no matter how anxious i am, that seems to help

im starting cbt soon, and i think that will help a lot

thanks again!!

Oh if that can help you too...my counselor told me once: if you have the feeling of going crazy and try to analyze your behavior to see how exactly you are going insane, you definitely are not. People that do go crazy usually do not realize it...I know it helped me when she told me that.

It's something i use to and still sometimes tell myself also. It's nice to have it reaffirmed when you're really bad.
