Hoping for some insight into the side effects I've been getting from Lexapro. I started it about 2 weeks ago and started having issues almost right away. They seem to be subsiding but there's a couple I'm still worried about.

First, I was getting dizzy before I started taking it. I would lay flat, like when going to bed, and I would feel like my brain was in a clothes dryer just spinning. It was a different feeling from vertigo, which I've had several times. I would only feel it when laying flat. After a few days of that I'd feel it when I'd move suddenly, like to stand up or sit down. It's gotten more frequent those less severe with the addition of Lexapro but there's a new twist. I *swear* I was hallucinating for a while there. I know that sounds crazy but I was seeing some wacky stuff, even if just for a few seconds. I also get tracers all the time (hope that's a familiar term..)

The other more problematic side effect is sexual. I can get aroused, but I cannot for the life of me have an orgasm. Imagine how incredibly frustrating and annoying that is. I'm sure part of it is related to depression, but my whole sex drive went insane after starting Lexapro. Lots of different things happening. I can't stay focused even if I *really really* want it, I guess because I'll try for an hour.

So, my question is has anyone else had these issues, and do they go away? In particular the second one. I can stand being dizzy if I can have an orgasm. scool

dizzyness has many causes a doc should check you out

yes sexual problems are common from all antidepressants, be patient as the lexapro can take 6 weeks to normalise and sex should be easier then

the sexual response is altered by antidepressants so some experimenting is often helpful

I don't know that I have had the dizzyness as a side effect at the level you have. But I have had the sexual side effects. And it is very frustrating. Over time, it got better, but still concerned me as another side effect is not being able to maintain an erection. Lately I have tried Argin Max, which is an herbal remedy recommended by my Dr. I have been taking it for about two weeks and my ability to orgasm and maintain an erection has gotten better. It recommends that you take them every day for a month for the full positive effects to occur. You can buy them at a nutritition store.

sex is actually better for some men on an antidepressant as they can last longer

antidepressants are given to men with premature ejaculation problems

occasionally women taking an antidepressant become oversexed and very demanding but this is rare

I have a warm, fuzzy spot for my SSRI, lexapro.  It was the most amazing drug.  I have some pretty serious anxiety and irritability, and this stuff chilled me out.  It shut off the background noise in my mind and made me attend to the here and now.

BUT it ruined my sexual response.  I had to stop taking it because my gf was taking it personally.  I have to admit I thought that I was getting the sex drive of an 80 yo.  I had conviced myself that maybe it was just my age (an elderly 35).  Well, I tried all sorts of cures that I did some SERIOUS research to dig up, and none of them worked.  They all had varying degrees of anactodal success, but they did nothing for me.  But I didnt' try them all.

Here's the completely list, and I hope that you had more luck that I.

palaver..

i'm a lexapro taker myself. (although, female)

but i know what you mean about the tracers and the climaxing.
tracers i can't help you with..

but sex.. yeah... try doing it first thing in the morning.. at least, it really helped for me.. before i'd even woken up properlly..

it just helps.. i don't know why!

anyway...take it easy groover.. it'll settle.
