I am having constant anxiety and the fluttering (is that a word? lol) in my chest. Not so much panic attacks just the throat and chest pressure and flutters and its driving me crazy. It is constant. I'm tapering on my Klonopin but haven't dosed down lately (I will be dosing down to 1.5 mg/day starting Wednesday) but since I've been on 2mg for a while I highly doubt its this especially since this just started. I'm really fighting the urge to take another .5 mg just to calm everything but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions would be great. To be honest, I haven't felt this ever before even though I fight with anxiety and panic, this is just a different feeling although I can almost 100% says its anxiety based on all of your postings that I have read.

A lot of people call them heart palpitations. I didn't have them until 5 years or so into my axiety disorder. I visited my doc just to be sure there were no heart issues. It would be prudent to have your symptoms checked out to be sure.

Did your doc prescribe the Klonopin in an "as needed" fashion? Are you ramping down under his guidance? Maybe you need to go slower.

Heart palpitations are really annoying, but once you're convinced that they're not going to kill you, you often calm down and they go away or decrease. : )

Going from 2 mg daily to 1.5 is a pretty big decrease. Most of what I've read says to go much slower than that.

It is palpitations I think as well. They have calmed down a bit so I'm feeling much better. I didn't give in to taking more Klonopin and I just tried to relax a bit and it helped. My GP told me to see a cardio about some shortness of breath so I need to make that appt and will bring up the palps.

Your right debaser... that is making me nervous. This taper schedule is under my Neurologist and I am concerned also. I have an appt with him on 5/31 and will talk to him about it. I have always read also that the taper should be done in 1/8ths so really shouldn't I be tapering decrease of .125 mg? I'm just hoping that I misunderstood him. I'm thinking I will just hold off on the taper until I see him which is the day after I'm supposed to start.

Yep. I believe that's what I read: to decrease in increments of .125 mg. I'm not sure how long you're supposed to go in between decreases, but I read it's a lengthy process. Of course, he needs to prescribe you a big load of .25 mg tablets. They're scored and can be split evenly into .125 doses.

But I don't know a lot about this since I've never come off. There's a couple of links on my site that will come in handy. The fifth one down under "Assorted Anxiety/Panic Links" will probably be useful. That site's full of people who have had hard times coming off benzos, but don't let them scare you. Most people don't have THAT much trouble, but people who do tend to congregate, I suppose. Anyway, there's some links to a tapering manual and all kinds of stuff linked from there. Before you go to the doctor print some of out so you guys can discuss it. I think the most popular one is called the "Ashton UK manual" or something like that.

Hi Des,

I completely agree with the others, your going to fast on the weaning. Talk to your physician and also you may need to have a cardiology consult.

Remember you are your own best advocate and patients have rights. So go for it, ask for what you need. yeah

Thanks kitt,

Yeah your right... I've been told by a couple of my docs already that I need to see the cardio and you know that is the only doc that I'm afraid to see because I'm scared of what he will say to me. I just need to make the appt already. Thanks for the hugs :)
