a psych told me that narcotics are quite good for severe anxiety and panic attacks and are used in hospitals for severe cases

he agreed that it was possible that some heroin users were partly using it for their anxiety and panic attacks

also if someone has severe pain and is using narcotic painkillers, then stopping them may allow panic attacks and severe anxiety to start up, being no longer under the narcotics control

**Harry just changed the H to Opiates okay

Email me if there is any questions okay yeah

Hey Harry,

It is Kitt again, and in this post you have shared your discussion with a psychiatrist regarding  the use of an illicit drug.

I will assume you meant well and I realize you were not advocating for the use of this drug.  Should a discussion develop re using this drug we will deal with it then.

Again I thank you in advance for undertanding my concerns.

Respectfully
Kitt

Harry wasn't advocating it at all; he was just suggesting that some anxiety sufferers end up self-medicating with optiates such as heroin and end up addicts. That's why if someone has a relative who may appear to have an anxiety disorder, they should get them real treatment. Particularly young people (high school, college age) who are exposed to these drugs may end up in trouble if they're not careful.

When my grandfather was dying, he became extremely anxious. Since he was terminal anyway they treated with morphine even though he wasn't in pain. It's common. However, unless someone is dying, opiates are far from an ideal treatment for anxiety even in a medical setting because the withdrawal is so severe.

You are right Debaser,

Harry was only sharing a conversation, I just did not want members taking it wrong or starting any discussions on that drug.   I know Harry is dedicated to the forum......... yeah

On the narcs, for palliative treatment, I agree and what ever drug works, keep the patient comfortable.

When someone is injured a narcotic and a benzo may both be used together. Most people that suddenly have their lives disrupted are going to panic from pain and from loss of control. I know I would.

Thank you for sharing. Your a good member.

Yeah, I can see why there's concern. I've visited several forums in which the mods (if there are any) will allow discussion about USING illicit drugs for self medication. That's very irresponsible, of course. While it may work, it sure leads to a bunch of other problems (death in many cases) and even worse anxiety and other psychiatric problems.

Opiates used intravenously in the hospital will stop anxiety, panic, pain, and whatever else. I have had opiate derivatives in pill form back when I had injuries from sports and the darned Marines, and in that form they do not seem to calm you down for some reason. I guess if you took enough of them they would, but THAT is not something you want to do. I never liked taking those pills.

I was prescribed two different kinds after my surgery a couple years ago and still have every pill except for two. I took one of each kind and they both nauseated me, which of course caused more anxiety. I'd rather deal with pain than nausea ANY day.

HI Debaser
Just a suggesstion
Those opiates are no doubt out of date / expired so you can take them to Pharmacy that u deal with and /or flush them down toilet

I learnt hard way with all my opiates .use to keep them in bedroom on my dresser was gone away and My friend I ahve mentioned that is now using them the wrong way came in with son and stole everyone of them...
they between the 2 would use needles to inject 300 to 400 mgs of morphine daily....

I have not nor will not talk to her or her son since this happened
They actually had the moxy to BRAG about it all over town
I did get a police report done but did not say who I knew it was
THAT was the only way I was able to get my meds replaced .......

Morphine and or Oxycontin will make me nauseated at times but I do not take both together EVER>.....

Actually this could be an informative thread as long as it does stay with guidlines ya know
Kitt was right in her concern and that is why I took out the word 'H" and put Opiates .....

Take care and yak later
