I think we ought to put our heads together and come up with a NEW NAME for depression and depressive disorders.
After all, it usually doesn't involve depression alone. There may be a total absence of sadness - just feelings of apathy, anxiety, rage, numbness or foggy-headedness. Can you relate?
Since this type of disorder is organic, originating in the frontal lobe, I'm assuming, and involves neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine, to name a few, I say we call it "Neurotransmitter Malfunction Disorder" or some such title. NMD. It would cover a lot of disorders.
When you tell people you're depressed, they say "what about"? GRRRR. That's like saying "What are you diabetic about?" Tell them you have NMD and they say "Ohhhhhhh. That's terrible."
