I want to switch from ativan to xanax cause i heard xanax is much gentler and doesnt make you as sleepy. I have a doctor who would have no problem doing it...im just wondering if its safe to switch benzos like that? anyone know

I have never heard of any problem with switching benzos ...but you may experience some w/d but nothing major IMHO

Maybe someone else would have more info for you

Take care and keep us in the loop

Hey Hunniebee

I think you should be able to switch the meds but make sure your phyaician gets the doses right,  How many mg of Xanax is equal to your Ativan dose?

Good luck and be careful.

I found a great site (I probably got the link here) lol. It's benzo.org.uk they have most benzos and the way to wean off them. Maybe they have something you could follow. I was shocked to find my 2mgs of clonazepam is equal to 40mgs of valium. Im down to 1.5 now from hospital) and would like to follow their withdrawal method.

no benzo is stronger than another, it all depends on the dose, comparisons can be mede by looking up a benzo equivalency chart on the net, but these dont always agree with eachother

the sedation level from different benzos varies a lot from person to person and usually goes down  over time

most anxiety sufferers are sensible and seldom take a too large dose, in fact, getting them to take a large enough dose is  a  common problem
