Hi guys,
I have had anxiety issues for awhile now, but starting in January 2007 I have been having anxiety attacks, where I feel scared, dizzy, like someone is sitting on my chest, like my throat has a large lump that is expanding, like I cannot catch my breath etc. I typically only have them during the day when I am under obvious stress, but I have them every night. I recently told my GP who prescribed Cipralex (apparently called lexapro in the US) I did a search but same up empty. Is anyone on this? Any tips?? LOL

I don't want any weight gain, and I don't want to feel unlike myself (like a zombie or no emotions)

Hi Tara,

I've been on Lexapro for 2-1/2 years, and it really has helped me, although I still have occasional relapses, and have had to up the dose for a bit. It has been wonderful for me, and I don't feel like a zombie, and believe me... I still have emotions... probably too much. I don't cry constantly anymore, which I consider a good thing. You are not alone with the nighttime anxiety. I have that sometimes too (tonight, for instance, which is why I'm up at 3am). I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it has worked for me. If it doesn't help you, ask your doc to switch you to something else... it took me 3 different anti-d's before I found one that agreed with me. Good luck with it! (((Hugs)))

I am on Lexapro and have been for almost 4 weeks now, and I haven't noticed any weight gain at all and I was afraid of feeling like a zombie too, but I definitely don't! So far I really like it and I feel I have had some improvement on it. Good luck!

I actually started flaring earlier this year and have been on prednisone since March, but I'm almost done with it! I'm down to 5mg every other day and after two weeks of that I will be done finally. I'm still in a mild flare I would say but the bleeding has stopped now and I only go to the bathroom maybe three times a day, which is great! My doctor still thinks I'm taking Asacol but it was making me considerably worse so I stopped once I started prednisone. Every time I talk to the doc though, out of habit I just say yes when he asks if I'm still on Asacol. I guess once I'm done with pred, if I start to flare again I'll just say "Oh the Asacol isn't working, can we try something else now?" Heh.. Yeah I know, I'm a bad patient sometimes.

I'm just hoping I'll be okay throughout July because I have a 9 hour road trip on July 5th to get my new tattoo and on July 18th I'll be flying to Florida for 5 days to visit my parents and would like to spend time away from the toilet!!!

Hi,

I know there are lots of posts on Lexapro here too.

My own experience ...it did not work for me so it is individual response.  I did not have any nasty side effects, it just didn't work.

Keep posting.

well, I certainly hope it works for me :)

Hardspace, have you ever tried lomotil? If you have drug coverage , lomotil is available by prescription, and it's about half as strong as imodium, but imodium can get really pricey after awhile. When I am starting to flare, or when I know I'm going to be really nervous ..i take it, becasue the nervousness/anxiety translates into bathroom visits for me. It really slows things down..so helpful for a road trip. The urge still comes on very suddenly though so I would pack TP so you can go by the side of the road if you have to.
Regarding Asacol, I think its a waste of time. Everytime I take it, it's like I'm on a sugar pill. I can't tell the difference. They had me on cipro for 4 years..I just got off it as I think it was contributing to my anxiety. Man I felt like crap for about a week..nonstop chemical headache..and there's no resources or people you can talk to abou ti- I mean who is on cipro for 4 years?!
Take care; you must be excited to get off preddy..
