i went out with a friend after school tonight and had a few drinks..i hadnt had any ativan since earlier in the day. Well alcohol tends to make me anxious and panic so by the time I got home i was really feeling bad. I popped an ativan without even thinking about it. until after when i realized..you arent supposed to drink with it. I started feeling HORRIBLE..my chest and stomach hurts im extremely drowzy and my heart is RACING. pretty much all the signs of a panic attack. But im not sure. Could it be the effect of the alcohol with the ativan. I had about 4 drinks and 1 mg ativan. Could it just be that im bringing it on myself by worry? any advice would be appreciated. I highly doubt my husband wants to spent the night in the ER with me. I dont know how people can be serious drug addicts...it all scares me to death!

It's probably a touch of anxiety.  Usually, drinking alcohol intensifies the effect of these drugs and you'll get drowsier than normal.  I wouldn't stress about it too much, especially if this is a situation in which you would typically feel anxious (i.e., you have some health anxiety).  Maybe try taking a walk and do some deep breathing to see if you feel better (if you're not feeling drunk, that is!)

Thank you Sarita. Im actually feeling a bit better since ive kept my mind off my health. You're right I have MAJOR health anxiety. Its my biggest problem. Reading the board and posting helps to get my attention on something else. Thanks so much for the reply.

hi hunnybee,

I was thinking just what Sarita said. I'm sure it's not a good idea to mix alcohol and benzos, but that does sound like a panic attack. I sometimes bring my symptoms on by worrying. If alcohol usually makes you anxious, maybe you could just have juice or club soda when you go out with your friends. (((Hugs)))
