Thank you for being here for me and I am proud to say I served 10 days on the jury in seat number 5 and met some very nice people. For the 2 weeks we were like a mini family.
I can now tell you the case was a Sexual Assault with Bodily Injury Criminal Charges. We were a 12 member jury with 2 alternates. The day you go to deliberate the 2 alternates are excused and I believe the one person was thrilled to finally get out of the court house.
There were 3 men accused of assaulting a woman home alone in an apartment building. I won't go into details due to the subject matter but it did take us 14 hours to come to a verdict.
We were hung up on consent by the victim as the lead detective did not give us the information we needed and we had little to go on but "beyond a reasonable doubt" and our own experiences.
The judge was so nice and debriefed us per our request after the trial. We had some young women on the jury that had great difficulty with the whole thing but after the judge said he was glad we had to make the decision instead of him, the young women felt better.
So, I enjoyed my two weeks of work and will miss the courthouse but this whole experience made me realize I am ok. I can go out of the house without wanting to run home.
So as I have said before if I can do it, I know you can get out and feel comfortable too.
Bless each of you, my family.
