I took .5mgs of Xanax today at around 3pm. And a friend just called me and wants me to come over for some beers. Is it safe to drink beer since I took Xanax today? I won't drink beer till probably 11pm.
Let me know, I'm always cautious...I guess thats a plus about anxiety...lol.

Hey Tyler,

My advice, never mix alcohol and drugs. Some will say it is ok, and it may be for them if they have talked with physician and are told that an occasional beer won't hurt.

I would not mix the two.  Hey just my 2 cents worth.

I wouldn't do it, but the half-life of Xanax is 9 to 20 hours. If you drink nine hours from when you took it, well...you can do the math. It probably wouldn't hurt you but it may tax your liver a little and you may or may not get drunk faster (and be more prone to blackouts). There is a risk of seizure, though.

I definitely wouldn't hit the hard stuff, but beer? Maybe. "Some beers"? Probably not. A beer? I doubt it would have much of an effect but I really don't know. I took Xanax recreationally as a kid and routinely mixed it with alcohol, but I also saw a lot of kids go really wrong with that kind of thing, too.

It being Saturday night, the best you can probably do is ask a pharmacist. Or if you have insurance that offers a 24/365 "ask a nurse" program, call them. Better yet, do both. Even better yet, don't drink at all until you get an answer from a doctor.

I asked a pharmacist once about drinking with clonazepam, and he sort of smiled and shook his head no. "I don't think you want to do that", he said.

IMO Don't do it. Because, remember, you're system can vary also from time to time. I think at times we are more vulnerable , also to state of mind, not worth it if you have a problem. Just my concerned advice.
Depends on how your resistance is, everyone is different. Have fun, but be safe!
