I have also posted on the migraine place, but thought maybe I could get some help here also.  Let me give you a little background first. Have had panic attacks/generalized anxiety disorder for about 16 yrs. ( I am almost 35).  Have been on xanax off and on that whole time.  Have had good and bad times.  Well I had been doing much better the past few yrs. and then this yr. I just seem to be losing it.  I am stressed, anxious and overwhelmed/overloaded most of the time.  I am  perfectionist and probably OCD and have gotten worse over time.  My question is the past few months when I get stressed I have been having migraines instead of panic attacks.  When I am in a situation that used to would have caused a pa I now get a migraine.  Could that really be from stress. My dr. says it is just my body handling the stress differently.  I honestly feel like I am going crazy.  I don't know what to do.  I dont' know which is worse the migraines or the pa. Could someone please help me.  I am driving myself and everyone else crazy.  Let me also add that I have had migraines for 13 yrs. but they have just increased in frequency with the additional stress. Thank you so much for your help.

ps i forgot to mention that I am also chronic anemic from fibroid tumors. I don't know if that had anything to do with this or not. But I dont' want to die or go crazy.  I just want help.  I have 3 beautiful children and a wonderful husband and I just want to be the wife and mother they deserve.
thank you again

Dear Stressed Mom

Welcome to the A & P forum.

I do not believe that you are going to die.  Your doctor has assesssed you and given you the answer and I would go with him and not keep agoniziing on why it changed from panic to migraine.  confused   That is my humble opinion.

I know your looking for a specific answer.  You will receive support and words of wisdom from our members but nothing should take the place of the Doctor/Patient relationship you have established with your physician.

You mention OCD, many  people that suffer from OCD have learned CBT to help deal with the run away thoughts. Do you have a therapist that you see on a regular basis?

Please stay with us and keep posting.

Gentle Hugs

I have not seen a therapist for yrs. b/c I was doing so much better. What is CBT? Thank you for your quick answer and your help. I just do not have many people I can talk to. People have this view/opinion of me. I come across like I have it all together and can handle things. They have no idea the double life I lead. and that makes it very hard for me to be honest about my problems with my friends and people I know.

As I got older, my panic episode have lessened.  Right now when I am overwhelmed, I get migraines.  I still get my panic attacks once in a while, but not that frequent.  But when the migraines hit, boy do they knock me out.
Hang in there and know you are not alone.  yeah

Really?!?! What do you do to try and prevent them?
Thank you so much! It's hard not to feel alone b/c you don't see how anyone else could feel this way.

HI,
I am sorry you having migraines, they are a bad thing. My mom use to get them so bad they would make her sick and throw up. I too have had my share and they can be a mean bugger to deal with. My mom had them alot and used an herbal med called feverfew.  She took it everday and for her it seemed to work. She had less and less of them while taking it. Now please dont go run out and buy some until you talk to your doc, Cause you dont know if it will mess with the meds you are already taking (if your taking any)  So please talk to a doc first.
Best wishes!

Hello and welcome.

I feel for you.  I suffer with migraines to the point of vomiting.  I believe stress can trigger migraines.  Maybe your doc can prescribe some medicine for your migraines.

Kitt posted a website for CBT.  I believe it is called "The MoodGYM Training Program".

Good Luck!

Hey Mom,

CBT is Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  We have members on this site that use it and it is online and free.  It won't take the place of therapy but it can help you.

http://moodgym.anu.edu.au/

I understand what you mean by people see you as a strong person, they cannot see the pain inside.  I hid my depression and anxiety for 24 years until I had major melt down.  Now I talk about it freely.  I have lost friends but I guess they were not worth having if they were uncomfortable with someone who has a mental illness diagnosis.

People here are so understanding and caring...............Stay with us.

Safe Hugs.
