So, I am going to be going back to the doctor this week, because of some issues.  But, I have a few questions that maybe you guys could answer first to either ease my mind, or educate me before I go to my appointment.

I have been getting like a tightness in my chest, up to several times a day, and when it happens, I tend to grab a Xanax, and within a little bit of time, the sensation goes away.

I have been feeling concerned about my heart for a while now, because of this discomfort that I have been really dealing with for about 3 months now.  The doctor didnt' say much about it at my appointment, he wanted to see my blood work.

I get a tightness on the left side, and a sore feeling all across my chest, and sometimes my shoulders feel crappy too.  It happens everyday.  Not from physical exertion.  In fact, most of the time, I wake up with that feeling.  Then, like I said, I go to the Xanax, and the feelign goes away.

Does this sound heart related if Xanax is making it go away?  I fear it isn't anxiety though, because like I said, I often wake up like this, or will get the feelign while sitting or laying around even.

I am going to have my doctor look into this more, obviously, but until I get in to see him, I figured you guys could give me some words of wisdom!!!

Thanks.  And, by the way, I haven't been posting lately, how is everyone doing?  I hope everyone is doing GOOD!!!!  Better yet, GREAT!!!

I wish we could answer that, but only a cardiologist can rule out heart problems. If you're taking Xanax several times a day, though, I've heard people say they get rebound anxiety when the dose wears off. If you find yourself taking lots of that stuff you may ask your doc about switching to a long-acting benzodiazepine. They're a little easier on you.

Good luck!

Hi. I know that a cardiologist is the only one who can give me an answer...I realize that, but I was wondering if anyone ever heard of what could cause chest pains that go away with Xanax...that is all. Not looking for a diagnosis...of course.

Thanks for your thoughts though!

Hi Hun,

Sounds like the tightness could be coming from your anxiety.  I would definately bring this up to your doc.  Maybe he can refer you to a cardiologist to have some test done just to be sure it is not cardiac related.

When my anxiety was at a peak, I was convinced it was my heart.  I had a great deal of tightness in my chest 24 hours a day.  I went to the cardiologist and had a stress test and echocardiogram.  They came back normal and it was a weight off my shoulders.

I think an exam by a cardiologist would give you some peace of mind!

Keep us posted.  Take care sweetie.

Hugs,
Mary

Hey Mary...thanks. I too have the tightness almost all the time. It has gone down some since I started the Lexapro...and of course, when I take a Xanax, it goes away. I am going to get in with the doctor this week, and maybe even to a cardiologist as well...we will see what happens.

Thanks Mary....Thanks everyone for talking to me.

Good Morning Tammy

I am glad your going to see you physician. If the Xanax is helping you I would talk to your physician about a longer acting med that will help with the anxiety.

Your physician should be able to advice you on the chest pain and if you need follow up with cardiologist. I am sorry you are having these episodes.

You will get better, one step in front of the other.  I made it and so will you.
