hello

i already made this post, but then i realised i'm from the UK and meds are marketed under different names over here. So is anyone on Inderal (USA) or Propranolol (UK) for anxiety? It's the first medication they've gave me and apparently it's a beta blocker whatever that means, just kind of slowling my body down to reduce panic attacks i suppose? My doctor says i am on the lowest dose (40mg once a day) but i can go as high as three a day or sumthing like that, but only at her say so. I took my first today and i can't say it has made much difference, i took the pill about 5 hours ago and i have had one small but quite bad panic attack already, although i suppose it did go away quite quickly, but i still have a weirdness in my stomache all the time. Urgh i dunno what to think, i guess i'm expecting too much too soon when really i know a pill can only do so much, and that I have to change the way i think. Is anyone else using this drug? I would love to hear someone elses experiences on it? I'm really hoping this works otherwise it will be anti-depressants which seem so extreme. haha oh and look at me now getting anxcious about it. Don't you just adore anxiety disorders.

thanks for reading.

beta blockers calm the body but not the mind, valium calms both

BBs are helpful in a limited way and can be taken as needed, watch for dizzyness from reduced blood pressure

Hello,

This is Kitt. Beta blockers are not FDA approved for the treatment of anxiety or nervous tension but are generally used to do so. I used Propanolol 20 mg once daily for a familial hand tremor. This drug is not habit forming and may be taken for months or even years.

The physician dosage appears to be appropriate to me but your right, it is not going to work instantly, so don't give up. I am sure your physician or your pharmacist warned you to check your pulse for slow pulse and alsoa drop in your BP.

Keep posting.

My weird feelings in my stomach when I get anxious I call "butterflies", others have stomach upsets when they are anxious and even get nauseous so it could be different for each person.

I don't think we can give you an exact answer for what your weird feelings are.  I am sorry.

I hope you are doing better.  If I get over tired I will get anxious easier.

I hope you get  some relief and take some of the advice here and put it to practical use.

I was on a beta blocker for anxiety and it did slow down my body quite a bit. After I'd been on it for many months, I started getting days of being deeply depressed. My doc took me off the med and I haven't had any of those depressed days since. Anyhow, the inderal will mainly stop PAs from coming on full-blown, but as to the other symptoms of anxiety, it may not be a huge help, sorry to say.
