I'm really kind of freaked out and afraid. I was tired this afternoon and decided to lay back on the couch to rest. I closed my eyes and began to drift off. Then suddenly I jumped up feeling like I couldn't breath. There was heaviness to my chest and I felt like I couldn't take in a deep breath. It didn't last long, only seconds or a minute at most. But it really has me scared and I'm afraid to lay down again even though I'm really tired.

This happened once before maybe a month or more before. I was asleep at the time. It was early morning and I woke up suddenly feeling like I couldn't get a good breath. I blew it off and tried to get back to sleep but it happened everytime I was drifting off to sleep. I got up and was afraid to try to get back to sleep. It hadn't happened since then until today.

I decided to go out for a walk about an hour afterwards because I was sort of panicking thinking something was wrong with me. I figured if I could go for a walk, then I was fine and I didn't have any problems. So I guess it couldn't be anything physically wrong. Right?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Do you think it is just Panic? ANy advice?

Please help!

Hopes, it sounds like panic to me. I suffer from panic and anxiety. I was so bad back in February I was shaking uncontrollably, pacing the floor, felt like I was hyperventilating, couldn't breath, tightness in my chest. A panic attack. And I am suffering from it again now, but not like that, but I have uncontrollable crying at times. I am having several issues causing me discomfort and every little time I have something happen healthwise I freak out and end up at the doctor, and every time it is something minor. I am even freaking out time and time again now over this total discomfort in my left side above my hip, it feels like a catch in my side, and the more I stress over it the worse it presents itself, not to mention the tightness surrounding it. And the tightening up of the muscles in my back.  And I have been able to determine most of the other to be gas and gas cannot hurt me but when it flares I get nervous, I think the worst and have since December. And I'm going through some female issues right now also that have me concerned and I've been going through both this and mild digestive issues since December. Got over it once but it took a while, over a month and it looks like it is going to take a while again. I have a bottle of Xanax for when I get really bad. Hang in there.

Hello,

It sounds like panic to me too. However if it becomes a major concern you should follow up with your physician to discuss the problem.

Please keep posting and remember you have friends here and lots of support.

Bless you. :)
