I was wondering if there has been anyone who has wein off of zyprexa and how well they did. My doctor took me from 5 mgs down to 2.5 for 1 week than 2.5 mgs the next week taking it every other night then he wants me to stop. I'm nervous but am going to do what he says. Can I hear from ones that have been through this. Thank You Suebird

Sue,

I have heard of people weaning from this med, but I have no personal experience.  I don't want to repeat hearsay so I will just encourage you to stay in contact with your physician to make the weaning process work.

AS Lyn said, others will be here with experience.

Sue,

I have taken zyprexa before, but it was not for anxiety.  I took 10mg for about a month, and don't remember having withdraw symptoms when I stopped taking it.  But everyone is different, and I wish you the best.

i took zyprexa for "possible" bipolar symptoms for 3.5 weeks. during that time i gained 17 pounds a retained huge amounts of fluid in my legs and feet i was only on 5mg a day and so my dr. just told me to go off. after about a week i started having panic attacks. i consulted a pharmacist and they said that the zyprexa would be out of your system within 3 days and your body should just return to normal. hope this helps. why were u on zyprexa?

Hi Sue,

I was on Zyprexa for quite some time a few years back, I gained 30 pounds from this drug.  All these meds have risk of withdrawls.  Always.  Everyone is different and may experience, less, more or none at all.  The most important thing is to do exactly what your doctor says, no matter what.  Sometimes even weaning you still may experience some withdrawls, but the idea is to go off slowly so the withdrawls aren't as bad.  Drink lots of water and get up slowly when laying down.  Take it easy, eat and drink water regularly.

All the best,
