Some nights I have trouble getting to sleep. It's like just knowing that I need to get to sleep makes me to tense to do so! UGH!!!! eyes   So I asked my new pdoc (well, actually he's a nurse practicioner) if he could give me something for occassional sleeplessness. He gave me trazodone and said they used to use it for depression but now they use it mostly for sleeplessness...so anyhow, I was wondering if anyone else has used it and what hey thought.
Thanx!

Janet,

I have used trazadone in the past for sleeplessness, and it worked really well for me. You do have to give extra time in the morning to wake up. It made me a little drowsy in the am, but aside from that no other major side effects. I was on it for about 6 months as a sleep aid. Best wishes!

I tried trazadone as a sleep aid and wasn't able to tolerate it very well.  When I took the recommended dose, I was a total zombie the entire next day, so I halved the dosage and still it took me about 2-3 hours in the morning to start registering what people were saying to me at work.  I told my doc and she switched me to Ambien CR, which works much better for me and doesn't make me feel like I've been run over by a truck when I take it!

It hasn't really worked for me but I take it occasionally when I just can't sleep. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
I have Crohn's Disease, panic disorder, paranoid personality disorder, and major depression. Fun.

Trazadone never worked for me but it seems like it works more often than it doesn't for most people. Even Ambien kept me up all night. Good luck.

I've taken 200mg of Trazadone before bedtime for several years.  I have no problems waking up in the morning, no grogginess or anything.  Only thing is that I am usually up pretty late, but wake up about 6:30 am, like clockwork.  No worries from me.  Just usually need a nap sometime during the day.

Trazadone is known to work the opposite way IF you take it and fight the sleep ........from my experience in giving meds out in NH and own experience ...........
I take it and have hot milk and am asleep within 20 30 minutes

I too take 100 ml. of trazadone at night for sleep and have been for 10 years.  It helps better if you take it regularly.  I take mine 45 min. before bedtime and don't remember anything after my head hits the pillow.  Tried many other rx, but this one is the best.  I wake up without feeling groggy.  However when I started, I only took 50 ml.

Good Morning Janet

I take Trazadone 150 mg every night for sleep.  I have been on in for almost a year now.  The first couple of nights I thought it was a loser but by night 3 it kicked in and I sleep well.

Not sleeping was  my worse anxiety when I started on the Trazadone.

I think it works best if taken regular not as an "as needed" medication.

Good Luck.
