I'm a 21 year old male, had my first panic attack about 10 months ago, and I've been experience anxiety symptoms since. Mostly just mental things - fear of going crazy/losing my mind, thinking that things are wrong with me even though I know they aren't. I don't really have the physical symptoms. Anyway, I want my old quality of life back so I'm thinking of going on paxil. I say paxil because my father has GAD and he went on it and now he said he is essentially cured, so I figure that it would help me if it's hereditary. I have a few concerns though: 1.) I just started a relationship and I have heard that paxil can really negatively affect your sex life, 2.) I am a college student and I drink alcohol heavily on the weekends (if I can't drink on Paxil my social life will really suffer). Can anyone shed some light on these concerns? If I go on paxil is it likely that I'll lose my sex life even though I'm a young, healthy male? What would happen if I drank while taking paxil? Are there alternative meds to paxil that would be better for my situation? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!!

Well in all Honesty I would suggesst to you NOT to bother with working on your a/p especially with meds as the meds should NOT be mixed with alcohol........

If you are serious about wanting to get out of this a/p you are in you have to do the TX your doc RX and talks with you about

There are also self help techniques you can do if you want like reading about this ....Lucinda Basset has a few great books out ...CBT...Relaxation Techniques and many others

I do hope you will stick around and come up with a promising PLAN of action to fight this ......Alcohol just will not do it in some case it makes it worse.........

Hello SF

We have had quite a few posts very similar to yours in the past weeks. I agree 100% with Lyn, drinking and medications don't work.

You might use the search the site feature on this page to bring up some of the other posts and reading may help you decide on what you want to do.

Take care.

Respectfully
Kitt
