not sure where to begin....I've been out of work since July 2 due to getting a spinal cord stimulator put into my back. it took them three different surgeries to get it in the place where it's supposed to be. the only problem is during the third surgery they cut threw the upper back mussels which has brought on a new set of pains. so the doctor put me on methadone cocktail to help with the pain. i had stopped taking it months before due to the side effects of it causing the to sweat uncontrollably. i woke up yesterday having a panic attack/anxiety attack and still dealing with it. i am supposed to be going back to work tomorrow............i don't know what to do and there no one i can talk to on the weekends. i'm scared and don't know what to do.

Dear John,

I certainly understand your anxiety and it sounds like it could be anticipatory anxiety.

Common Anticipatory Anxiety Reactions include :

Feelings: anxious, fearful, angry, confused, hopeless, losing control, numb, sad, moody, irritable, guilty.

Behaviors: withdrawal from others or activities, disrupted routines, startle reactions, easily crying

Cognitions: preoccupation with possibility of trauma, concentration difficulties, self-doubt, worry, indecisiveness, memory difficulties

Physical complaints: muscle tension, headaches, gastric distress, sleep and appetite changes, fatigue

Talking usually helps. Share your feelings with friends, family, on here are all good ways to work through the anxiety.

Relaxation techniques: Try deep breathing, muscle relaxation, visualization (imagining peaceful scenes), and/or listening to soothing music.

Realistic self-talk: While we can't always control what happens to us, we can always control what we say to ourselves. It's important to keep things in perspective. Talk to yourself in reasonable ways. Ask yourself "how likely is my fear?" Remind yourself that you have coped before during other challenging times. Don't just dwell on the negative but consciously look for things you can appreciate every day.

I hope this helps you and please keep posting as others will have support and advice to share with you.

Hoping the best for you.

Respectfully
Kitt

My wife took me to the ER shortly after i posted this last week. they had me admitted to a hospital for observations which lasted until yesterday mid day. I don't think it was the right kind of facility for me but at least I was detoxed off the methadone. the place they sent me was mostly for people who were drug addicts and only one or two of us were there for anxiety and depression. as far as how things are going right now......a bit better today. i need to go see my doctor on Monday to see if he will adjust my meds and I also need to find a shrink i can talk to whom i feel comfortable with. things are still a little shaky but I'm trying to get through this a little at a time. thank you for all of your words of encouragement.
