Yesterday at 9AM my beloved dog Toby passed away in my arms. It was the most painful thing i had to go threw. I've had him his entire life and i grew so much with him. He was with me and still is in my heart through the worst. I miss him terribly, but know he is in a better place. I'm a bit of an introvert, stay home guy, so he really was my best friend...

I love and miss him, and its been bitter sweet put an end to his suffering.

I originally came on this board because my anxiety and panic came back when he started having some health issues. I was so scared and in shock that i might lose him that i really lost it for a while. Facing the fear and letting him pass before he really suffered was the best thing i could do for him. I know he is now in a better place playing with his tennis ball and running free again...

it's really hard :(

thanks for listening.

Dan,

I am so so sorry to hear of your loss.  Our pets become so much a part of us, of our hearts, and it is hard to let them go, I feel so bad for you right now.  You gave your Toby a wonderful, love filled life and a peaceful passing, and that is the best gift any of us can give to our four legged friends (or feathered friends as in Lyn's case).  Be very kind to yourself now, and know that all of us are here for you when you need a shoulder!

Dan,

I am so sorry for your loss.  As has already been said by others, our pets really do become our family members and it's a huge loss when they pass on.  As you go through the grieving process, make sure you take care of yourself - please don't let yourself spiral out of control.  We are here to help you.  Remember all the wonderful times you had with Toby and that he truly is in a much better place now - pain free, not sick and able to play.  My heart goes out to you.

Keep us updated as to how you are doing.

thanks everybody. I'm doing pretty well. A lot better than i anticipated. I think i've been grieving for a long period of time and the fear of me being truely alone was frightening. Now that i know he is in a better place and i am alone, i feel ok. It hits me some moments, and then other moments i feel ok... Overall i feel kinda wasted, or just exhausted and a bit out of it. But i feel like i'm doing pretty well and that i will only improve as time goes on...

time is the only cure :)

thanks for all the nice messages! It's really nice to hear :)

Dan,

I'm glad to hear that you are doing ok with this, it's not an easy thing to go through.  When those tough moments do hit you, just go with it - don't try to push them away.  If you need to cry, then do it.  If you need to just sit and stare at a picture of him or think about him, then do it.  If you need to come here and share those tough moments with us, please do it - you know we will comfort and help you to the best of our abilities.

As always, we are here for you.  ((((Hugs))))

Dan,

I am so sorry to hear this.  When I put my cat to sleep a few months back, you posted a comment that was very comforting to me.  I hope this gives you comfort in return...a poem called "RAINBOW BRIDGE"..........

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hugs

Mary
