All I've wanted to do for the past two months is sleep without the help of any meds.  At first, they worked, and I woke up with the usual hangover side effect, but I stayed asleep until my alarm rang.  Now, I get a sudden anxiety spell everytime I dose off, be it on the weekend, or like yesterday evening when I felt pretty relaxed.  It's like right when I'm about to lose conscienceness, something triggers and the anxiety wakes me up.  I'm now getting this in the mornings after my ambien cr wears off.  Has anyone had this experience?  Could it be my brain is denpendent on the meds to fall asleep so it wakes my up if I haven't taken any?  I know it sounds stupid but if I could just get rid of the anxiety when attempting to sleep, I sure I could get back on track.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this but I can tell you first hand that I have the same difficulties as you - sometimes I'm just drifting off to sleep and WHAM - an anxious thought jumpstarts me awake....this can happen time and time again before I finally go to sleep.  I also experience alot of nervousness/anxiety when I do wake up in the morning....I'd like to just lie there and relax but waves if anxiety and nervousness (along with crazy thoughts that make no sense) keep me from drifting off again.  I've gotten so used to it that I just expect it every time but I really do believe it's a result on ongoing anxiety...moreso than from the pills - because I've had it when I've been on medication as well as when I've been off.  So good luck to you - I know it's not an easy thing to deal with.

Thanks for the reply. The problem with me is I never had it until I started taking sleep meds. I'm guessing I've worried about sleep so much lately that I get get anxious when I start to fall asleep. Anyway, best of luck to you.

I was the same way TILL I strarted to take trazadone which is non narcotic and no hangover effect
I take up to 150 mg if needed but ususally the 50 mg will work
It stops me worrying about sleeping enough to get a GOOD restful night sleep and wake refreshed ..........

** I also do the natural route with HOT MILK some nights if not too much on my mind the milk has an ingredient when heated is activated to calm and help you fall into a cozy restful natural sleep ......Add a touch of hot chocolate or some cinnamon to top for taste**
