I am 24 years old and was diagnosed with GAD 3 years ago.. tho they have tried anti depressents.. (numerous) all had negative effects and cause a severe change in my mood and my general outlook for the negative.. almost all made me more depressed and even one made me suicidal.. as of lately my anxiety has been under control and hadnt had any attacks in almost 6 months.. due to recent events my anxiety has returned and worse than ever.

My anxiety attacks are so severe.. I sweat profusely.. shake.. vomit.. constant nausia... insomnia.. loss of appetite.. frequent urge to urinate.. and i am withdrawn and scared to let people see me so vulnerable incase i were to have an attack while out in public or with friends.

currently I am taking restorill 15mg for sleep and klonopin .5mg for the anxiety. I am still getting severe attacks and am curious as to other options in anxiety medications that may help more during a severe anxiety attack. I have tried xanax and it calms me down but wears off quickly and usually makes me sleepy.. or has no effect at all depending on the dosage.

Any advice or suggestions on medications for me to talk to my dr. about would be greatly appreciated..

and as for the anti depressants that have been known to help GAD i have tried.. Effexor XR up to 150 mg.. Lexapro 10 mg.. and prozac up to 80 mg...

any and all adice is greatly appreciated as i feel i am at the end of my rope with my anxiety.

malls,

First off, welcome to Healing Well!  This is definitely the place to come for support.

Do you see your primary care physician, or a pdoc?  That can make a lot of difference when dealing with anxiety, panic and depression.  The pdocs are more up on the meds for anxiety and such and specialize in those areas.

Have you talked with your Dr. about trying other SSRI's for the anxiety?  A lot of us with anxiety just need to find the right med for ourselves since we are sensitive to begin with.  Or, maybe try therapy - cognitive behavioral, if you would like to go without taking medication.  There are many routes you take, but only you know which one you want to follow.

I am sure someone else will be along too to give you some support and advice!  Hang in there and keep your chin up, anxiety stinks, but we all get through it - there IS light at the end of the tunnel!

Again, welcome to HW, and hugs to you!

Good Morning and Welcome to Healing Well.  I am sorry to hear you are having increased anxiety.

You have named some of the big AD's used for depression and anxiety and I assume these did not work for you?

You are on Restoril and Klonopin.........you might ask for Trazadone for sleep.  People who have become dependent on therapeutic doses of benzodiazepines may have  anxiety symptoms, panics, agoraphobia, insomnia, depression and increasing physical symptoms despite continuing to take benzodiazepines.

As for which med to use next, as sylk has already posted, each person's resonse to the meds if different.  Hopefully you have a wise and caring Pdoc.

Take care. I hope you feel better soon

Kitt

malls,

A pdoc is a psychiatrist.  I can completely relate to you when you say there are some recent events in your life that nothing seems to help your anxiety.

I have some stressors and events going on in my life right now that nothing seems to help my anxiety right now either.  I am currently taking Cymbalta and Xanax - I guess it takes the biggest edge off, but the attacks are still coming.  I don't know what events you have going on right now, but stressors can trigger some whopper attacks!  (I am experiencing them right now too)

Also, I am not sure if you have read through any of the other posts on here yet, but worth reading through as there are many useful tips and such to see how others handle things along with medications and how they help and whatnot.

People here are very helpful and will answer any questions they can!  We aren't Dr.'s or anything, but we all know what it is like to go through life with anxiety.

Again, hugs to you - stay strong!

i am scared to try any antidepressants due to the history of bad reactions to the ones i have tried.. my anxiety is not constant.. but recently ended a relationship with my now ex fiance.. and just found out yesturday he has a girlfriend who was a friend of mine.. all the while in the past fews we had been talkin about working things out.. even been spending time together and had been intimate a few times... so when i found out about his gf i realized he had been lying to me.. leading me on.. and also cheating on his girlfriend with me.. to add to matter.. when he moved out of the condo we were living it.. it left me with bills that were normally paid by two.. so money has been tight and seems like everything has just fallen on me at once.. up until recently i hadnt had an anxiety attack..

just want to find something for sleep because a night of no sleep only increased my anxiety.. so its a terrible circle..
