I had my gallbladder taken out on July 2, 2008 and ever since then i will have days i have to go to the potty all day long and then they are days i dont and have to take meds just to go . I also will get bloated like crazy and will swell up and look pregnant . It gets so bad with the air in my stomach that it makes my back hurt . I have told the doctors this and really all they say is that it happens alot to people after gallbladder surgery . Is there anything i can do or buy over the counter besides gas-x to help me with this .

Perform a search on the IBS forum, there's a lot of info and past topics explaining why Caltrate with Vitamin D (chewable pills, in a purple bottle) is very helpful to people who have had their gall bladders removed. You start out by cutting pills in half and chew 1/2 tablet with each meal. Sip water but do not drink a full glass of any beverage with meals. Watch what you eat also (begin a food journal, over time you'll see a pattern begin to form and foods to eat and also avoid in the future). After your body is used to the Caltrate you can move up to 1 full tablet per meal. 3 a day. But go easy at first. I've tried Caltrate several times, once consuming full tablets and it was just too much for my system. I didn't exactly become constipated (that's never been my problem), I was just so out of whack, it took a week or more to get back to any sort of predictability.
Now I personally find that Colace and a probiotic supplement help me the most. And diet.
But if I were in your shoes, look thru past topics for Caltrate info.
- Rectal Cancer 4/29/99, Stage I, no treatment necessary
(5 hour colon resection: 90% sigmoid removed, 15 inches of colon removed, gall bladder removed, temporary colostomy, reversed 8 weeks later)
- Chronic IBS/D symptoms, multiple bm's, on low residue diet
- Takes Colace 50 mg each evening
