|I have a few questions. Are there any blood test for diagnosing vitamin B(B1/B2/B3/B6/B12) deficiency?Same question for other vitamins like A,C,D,E.|
I tried a meat/fish free diet for some time then I kept having different illness like my skin of lips getting dried and falling off, Physical tiredness, lack of energy etc.A few months back I was diagnosed with gastritis and after taking medicines for five-six months the pain has reduced but I still have fatigue and pain comes and goes.I wonder whether all this related to vitamin B deficiency.
Another question the vitamin B tablets that are available here generally contain much more per tablet than the Reference Daily Intake like for example Thiamin (vitamin B1) RDI is just 1.2 mg
when Vitamin B tablet contains 100 mg per tablet.Similar situation with B6 and B12.
So the question is are these extra amount of vitamins gets used by our body or are these extra amounts of vitamins just gets flashed out through urine (as Vitamin B are water soluble)? If the extra amount gets flashed out through urine then why the manufacturers make the vitamin tablets so high in dosage? Is it a marketing thing ?Like the more they add the better it looks to customers?
Can even people with deficiency use/absorb those extra amount of vitamins from those tablets?

|apologies for the delay in response.|
I am sure there are tests that can be done to tell the levels of you questions.
Best suggestion is to talk to your family doc and ask for the tests, and voice your concerns honestly.
