Might have this........six years ago had some tooth pain not related to anything diagnosable. None since.

Now some lightning type pain in 2 teeth upper right, but comes and goes. so far not lasting. Had a filling done in one that actually turned out to be quite big. That tooth better. But one in front of it now has the lightning. In general good teeth and good repair and excellent dentist. BUt as nothing showed other than the cavity I had filled today, he was guessing this MAY be going on but said it fit the profile.

In past I had disastous surgery for condition that ended up not existing, lost the use of my colon and rectum and have permanent ileostomy. All that could be done to save me. Business wise the original docs are being dealt with (suit) but nothing will get me back. BUT have been traveling, dancing, and enjoying my friends, and keeping active. Certainly not just sitting about. Being as upbeat as I can under the circumstances.

Let me know if anyone else has this and maybe differential diagnoses that may exist. Thanks, Rosemary

i have this and have fibromyalgia. have you ever been tested for fibro? to manage tmj, i have had to give up all caffeine (including chocolate) and take 500mg of Boswellia Serrata a day. that is all i've had to do, and the tmj went away. for me at least, it was based on fibro, not on any prior tooth surgery. i hope you can find the cause of yours. you might also try asking your pain doc for a script for Tegretol. that is supposed to help with tmj greatly as well. *gentle hugs*

Try to get an MRI of sinuses.  Blocked up sinuses often causes upper teeth pain.

I've got this.  My ENT missed it completely, said the passages from the sinuses are open.  He sent me to a neurologist who had the MRI done.  Neuro called me, told me of the sinus he says needs to be drained.  He's writing a letter to the ENT.

The point here is that just looking with a tiny scope may not find the problem.  CT should find it, but that's lots of radiation.  Ask for the MRI instead.  No radiation, no pain, not invasive, should be covered by insurance.  You'll need it ordered by an ENT or neurologist, maybe PCP can order also.

hey rosemary, pretty name. if you do need meds for trigeminal neuralgia Trileptal is very close to Tegretol but without the need for regular blood-labs. good luck.

Hi, Think I am in the trigeminal neuraglia chat. I was told by my medical doctor in 2006. I was put on Carbamazepine . One tablet 2x a day. Plus Tramadol one tablet every 8hrs as needed. I started having migrains was put on noraptline bad spelling. The migrains stopped in the mean time I feel in work. But contined to work. Well the migrains were back with dizzyness. So had to go on Disability from work(writing this memo to remind my self all I went through.) Had to retire with the pain. Then i srarted having pain in the right side of face that really shot pain through my nose. My nose was causing all the pain. I went to sinus doctor who said that I have a deviated septum. That was causing the pain. We talked about surgery. I decided to have it. The doctor told me I would breath better and less pain. about 3 to 4 weeks later I started having pain in my nose. Went back to sinus doctor he said your nose is clear. He said I seen on your chart that you had facial pain awhile ago. So It started. I really did not want to believe it. I thought the sinus doctor woke up my trigeminal nerve. Well It got worse with the extreme pain. Finally made appointment with nerologist. Now Im on 200 mg of carbamazepine .4x a day. Tramadol I take if pain is bad. This med is not working Yet. I will give it some time. Two weeks. Im so sad I just thought the medicine would work in a week. Im so depressed feeling no good. I have so much respect for doctors. But I really wonder if they really know the pain were in. confused

Jeannie, you have brought up a thread that is really old, dated 2011.

Unfortunately, the original poster (esoR, Rosemary) died due to complications related to multiple abdominal surgeries and subsequent adhesions.

Rosemary would be pleased to know that her posts are helpful to someone else troubled by chronic pain. Rosemary had a tenacious to her that is memorable. Rosemary did not bow to chronic ill-health. She lived to travel on cruise ships to varied ports of call and she was a lively dancer.

In memory of Rosemary. You are missed.
