Yesterday I was weeding around the trees in our yard. I was sitting on the ground as I was doing this. I noticed after finishing the 5th tree, when I stood up I had severe pain in my lower left back right at the top of the pelvic bone. The pain is in the back and where the thigh meets the pelvic bone (the crease of the leg) but is not felt on the side, hip or buttock. It hurts to walk, stand with weight on the left leg and when I get up after sitting. The pain doesn't seem to ease up with any activity. Even just sitting hurts. I was unable to lay on my left side or back due to the pain. Could this be a muscle strain? Or could it be related to my DDD and osteoarthritis of the lumbar spine? What are your thoughts please?

Kayly, sitting on the ground more than likely aggravated everything. If I don't have a cushion to set on when messing around outside, I don't do anything, lol. Not sure what you have on hand for any medications, if you can soak in a tub with some apple cider vinegar it is good for sore muscles. If nothing you do for it at home helps perhaps see your dr. I would try some home remedies before seeing him/her.

Take care.

Susie,
Still have the pain but not as bad as it was. Been taking ibuprofen and soaking in hot tub. I have my 6 month checkup (my doctor likes to see me every 6 months) in a couple of days, so if still painful at that time I will talk to him about it.

JUST AN UPDATE...so the pain was easing up considerably which was great. However, this past Sunday, I was outside sitting on the ground while hubby was tilling the garden. Didn't feel anything when I got up, but about an hour later I started getting sharp, stabbing pains in the same area. Hurt like crazy all night and yesterday I could barely walk. Woke up this morning with a dull ache and no problem walking. Don't really think it's anything serious but am wondering if maybe I'm just irritating my already bad back as my lower back has been hurting quite a bit lately. Guess I better stop sitting on the ground.

Kayly, yes you are keeping things aggravated by sitting on hard surfaces. Get yourself a small cushion of some sort to sit on when outside. I have a footstool on wheels that is cushioned & when outside messing around I use it. I can lower it enough to work in the flower beds & it has saved me a lot of grief over the years.

Kayly, go to a fabric store or even check at Walmart in the craft section & look for the thick foam used for pillows. This makes a great outdoor cushion. The covered cushions in lawn & garden are too thin unlees you can find a thick one.

How is your DIL doing, has she got an appt with a neurologist yet?

Susie, thanks for the suggestion on making an outdoor cushion. I haven't had time to look for anything yet. Posted about DIL on my thread in the epilepsy forum, but I as of right now I haven't heard if she has an appointment yet.

I am not certain if this is what caused your pain but I have something called "Piriformis Syndrome." I also have chronic Sciatica (left side).

Consider going to YouTube and searching "Piriformis Syndrome" to learn some gentle stretches that might help.
