Well, that silly endocrinologist was saying I was pre-diabetic and needed metformin, etc, etc.

I just saw my GP for my (late) annual physical. I had her do a A1C as I've been very concerned about blood sugar, even though I've still not been able to give up Dr Pepper. It was 5.5!!! So I guess all that worry was a bit misdirected.

Instead my cholesterol is HIGH. Yuck, something else to worry about. Looks like a lot of fish & salad is in my future. I don't hate either, but need some recipes for making fish a little more tasty if I have to eat it often.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's support when I needed it!

Yay good for you on the A1c but sorry about the cholesterol. Avocados are healthy! Eat one with a dash of lemon juice and some garlic powder or fresh minced garlic on your salad.

Fish. Well, you could "bread" a piece by dredging it in almond milk and then parmesan cheese or wheat bran or almond flour for a change. Or, slather some pesto on the fish.

Actually, I've done all this with those thin chicken breasts, too. Sometimes, I just Google around for recipes. Lots of stuff online as long as you're careful about the ingredients.

Keep up the good work!

Lynnwood,

My parents take a fish oil pill and it has helped with their high cholesterol. It also helps with bp too! There are many benefits to fish oil. Maybe check into fish oil to help you as well.
I am working on me day by day. Laughter and playing are our cures! Kids do this, why can't we?

Rx
Trileptal 300mg times 2 twice a day- bipolar
Celexa 40mg 1 time a day- Depression anxiety
Protonix 40 mg 1 time a day- GERD
Loratadine 10 1 time day- Allergies

The Dawn85

Stay strong, stay well and be happy even if it's fake at first.

Happened to have another set of blood tests while trying to track down a vertigo/dizziness issue.

I've found it isn't my metabolism (from prednisone) after all, and weight loss isn't hopeless. I started a statin for the cholesterol issues and have been following the Weight Watchers program for 5 months now. Slowly but surely losing weight, averaging about a pound a week.

Weight Watchers is the exact balance between "eat absolutely no carbs/sugar" and "track everything" that I personally need. The tracking is really easy with the phone app, and veggies/fruits are all-you-can-eat (within reason, of course, if you actually have a diabetes diagnosis.)

My A1C has dropped to 5.4, and my cholesterol numbers look much better. All without metformin or severe (and for me unsustainable) dieting. I hope to got off the statin as soon as my weight gets down to a more reasonable place.

Thanks for everyone's support!
