Hi, I am new to the site and looking for info on costo. Have had fibro for 6 years and developed costo 3 months ago after a very painful digital mammogram. It took about a month to get rid of it with just occasional mild symtoms since.
Started Phy Therapy on Monday for the fibro knots in my thighs and tingling in my foot on the same side. She used a tens unit which actually felt like it broke up the knots somewhat. However she also gave me some strengthening stretches which use my arms and for some reason my costo came back full force.
Today I cannot even take a deep breath and my esophogus/throat area feels very irritated. Does anyone else suffer from costo and have any ideas why stretching or what could of caused the flare?  Thanks.

I don't suffer from costo, but there are some here that do. I would like to welcome you to HealingWell fibromyalgia forum. You have come to a good place here. There is a lot of information. Start with fibro 101, it is the second thread on the first page. There is a lot of accumulated knowledge there.

I am sure that somebody will come on shortly and answer your question. Like I said this has come up before.

I hope that you have a wonderful day, Keep posting,
hugs, Karen...

Hi, ChicagoGal, and welcome!  I'm so glad you joined us!  I hav costochondritis and use ibuprofen to help ease the discomfort.  It comes and goes with me.  Maybe the massage was too deep.  I see a massage therapist who gives me a light massage.  Deep massages are far too painful for me.  Anyway, here is a link about costochondritis by the Mayo Clinic.  It explains it better than I can!
I hope this helps you and I also hope to hear more from you soon!

If you put costochondritis into the little google box in the beige strip below the yellow stripe at the top of the page you will find more info than you want to know about costo from posts on HW. Enjoy!

Hi Chicagogal and welcome to our family. Another costo sufferer and yes using the arms makes it worse. I never knew how much are muscles are connected to each other til I got fibro. Sometimes I do wonder if it is really costo or just a part of fibro in the muscles but I do get the tenderness in the sternum. It's all just one big pain anyway. tongue
I start water PT this coming Mon., kinda curious how it's going to go.
Read all you can on here starting with the second thread fibro 101. There is so much great info on here. Ask questions, share with us and vent when you need. We are here for you.
luv and hugs

I get costo as well and like the others it comes and goes, but for me it can last for days at a time and its just aweful. I got a heating pad and crank that up and fold the pad in half and put a towel in front so my elbows can hold the pad in place on my chest. It helps me. Sure hope you can find relief, you might wanna try to learn to take slow deep breaths to help relieve the pain and let me tell ya laughing can make it hurt too. The best thing is to try to relax as much as possible and that can be hard when your in pain and I'm sorry, but it does help.
Sure hope your feeling better soon.
