Diagnosed with fibromyalgia since the 80's, I haven't stopped consulting doctors and specialists of all kinds. None of them has ever told me about to tick-borne disease such as Lyme disease. Still, I did my own research on the disease, as the symptoms are very similar to fibromyalgia's and chronique fatigue's. As far as I can recall, I've never been bitten my a tick, but I did the official tests (ELISA and Western Blot), both turned out to be negative. Then, I did another - more reliable - test, Elispot Borrelia, which is an LTT type essay, and it came out positive to borrelia burdorferi.

So...Throughout all these years, no specialist whatsoever, no rheumatologist, no neurologist, no intern, etc... Ever told me about Lyme disease. I wonder how this is possible. I've always been told to go get cured, that it was all in my head, that all my blood tests were ok. Now I have the proof that, no, this is not in my head (well, yes, it is in my head, but not what they think). The official blood tests are not reliable. One has to do the Elispot Borrelia, or the Lymespot Revised that are among the only reliable tests for Lyme disease.

No need to have been bitten by a tick to have a tick-born disease. Other blood-feeding bugs bear these pathogens, such as horse flies (those big black flies that sting hard!), fleas, ticks, bed bugs, lice, red velvet mites or rain bugs, some spiders.

Also, it is important to check for co-infections, as borrelia isn't the only infection, there is a myriad (Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Rickettsia, etc...). But stay away from the ELISA and Western Blot blood tests that are absolutely useless when it's been months or years since you began feeling bad.

I have done chelations for 2 years to get rid of heavy metals, but the problem didn't come from heavy metals. The high load of heavy metals that I have in my body come from the borrelia burgdorferi that gathers them to create a protection biofilm and become resistant. The problem of Lyme disease if highly underestimated. People are wrongly diagnosed as having fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue. People with such symptoms should in no time investigate the possibility of having a tick-born disease and perform the reliable blood tests (not the official useless blood tests). This is important, especially because these diseases are transmittable through sexual relations, as well as through blood transfusions.

Lime disease and such as fibromalgia and chronic fatigue, are always have been misdiagnosed and misunderstood by many, as a rare disease. doctors can't spontaneously begin to pretend like they knowing immediately what to do, either they are sending you to a life time of tests or treat you with a temporary pain pills which is a dangerous to your liver and well being.

I can see clearly that fibro is still not recognized as a disease by many normal people, that they never recognized it as an serious illness. i think we fibro suffer's deserve more attention in medical care to begin with.

We tell our members to be sure to be checked for Lyme disease and have also told them to check our Lyme forum. Most of us have done this. I know you are trying to be helpful but we have had way too many people with Lyme disease come to our forum and imply we could have Lyme. It became quite a problem at one time. I'm sure the Lyme forum would not be happy if Fibromyalgia patients went there and implied they could have fibro. So we do ask that Lyme members stay in their own forum. Be rest assured we let members know all about Lyme disease.

By the way, people with many of these same symptoms need to be checked for lupus and MS also. In Fibro 101...the first thread on this forum, there is a link called What Else Could This Be and all three of these illnesses and a few more, too, are listed.

I am now locking this thread. If any members want to know more about Lyme disease, please visit our Lyme disease forum. Thanks!
