Every time I go to the salon, I ask my hairstylist to put numerous towels at the sink bin as padding under my head because it hurts my head and neck area to bend backwards. I went to a new salon yesterday and forgot to ask the new stylist to add more towels. I didn't think a thing about it. Today, I woke up with a "sore spot" or tenderness at the base of my skull (not my neck). I'm assuming this is soreness from the 5 minutes that I laid tilted backwards at the sink for the hair wash.

This happens ever time I get shampooed (without extra padding underneath).
Does anyone else experience this? Could this sensitivity be related to my Fibro?

Hi, Mandy, and welcome! Yes, I'm tender when I have to put my head in a sink but it's not as bad as it used to be. Feel at the base of your skull, on each side of your spine. Do you feel a couple of knots that are tender? If so, those are trigger points. I had one in each side that were the size of marbles. I pressed on them and massaged and repeated. Then I left them alone for a few hours and then went back and pressed and massaged again a couple of times. I did this over a few days and those knots got smaller and smaller and I now don't have them anymore.

I used to have trouble turning my head because my neck would hurt but now I have no problem at all. And I get my hair done once a month and can lay back in the sink without terrible pain...and no cushioning either. Our skin is tender in the first place so I expect that. So hopefully this is what is going on with you.

Be sure to read Fibro 101...the first thread on the forum. There are links to good info about fibro and you will learn a lot there.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Don't hesitate to ask questions because we are here to help you. Hope to hear more from you soon.

At my salon they have a device to put in the sink and your head can rest on it. I asked the hair dresser if I could get on my knees and bend forward and asked why. I told her it hurt my neck and back when bending backward and she found this head support, made out of plastic that sits in the bottom of the shampoo bowl and works wonderfully well.

This only bothers me if i am in a flare,

But working on those trigger points should really help..

Wondering if you used a topical pain reliever on your neck salon days..if that would help.we are very sensitive.

We can always find ways to work around our issues..

Thanks all! My soreness is more at the base of my skull - in the indentation area - still very tender and it's been about 36 hours since my salon appointment 🙁
