Hi there, My name is Angela I am 27 and I started having migraines about 5 years ago and have only had about 5 migraines, (they only happen once a year, so I consider myself very lucky). My problem is I when I get one it is VERY VERY scary! I turn into a completly different person! I get emotional and cranky I cry and feel like I am having a panic attack, that lasts about 3-4 hours, then the black-outs I can't read things that are right in front of me. I am looking right at it and If I concentrate i can make out every letter in the word but still can't read it?!?...It is very confusing! Then it gets very bright, so bright i can hardly see, Then I can't talk, if I am having a conversation it is like I am hearing myself speak at the same time as I am speaking and I can't remember what I just said as soon as it leaves my mouth! I sound like I am crazy when I am talking, Does any one understand? I am a little scared. I am ashamed to admit it but i honestly thought migraines were just something that people said they had for attention! I just want to hear that these symptoms are normal, I havn't talked to many pepole about this I am almost embarassed or feel like I am a wierdo! Please get back to me!

Hi Angela, I'm 40 and have had migranines since I was 14. I too only have one or two a year. I went 3 years w/o one till Oct. You are have completed migranines. They are affecting your thought center in your brain. Mine look like a stroke. I talk funny and slur my words. I can't read, or remember peoples names Ive know for years. I was put on meds. in the 90's for it but didn't see any reason to take meds every day for something that only happens 2 or 3 times a year. I have found that the calmer you stay during the migraine the less painfull it is. A dark room in total silence is your best bet. Hope this helps
