Hi everyone.  I am having some severe headache's over my left eye that I believe to be a Migraine.
I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me.  I have been thinking about this alot the past few days and here is what I have come up with.
I go through a period every 5 years that started when I was 15.  I am now 30 so this is my 4th time going through this.  The headaches tend to come twice per day every day and last about 1/2 hour to 45 min. as I take advil the second I feel it.  The headache can only be described as if my left eye is being crushed in a vice.  It results in a pain that is so intense I cannot do anything.  I get very light sensitive in that eye and I tend to produce a lot of saliva and flem during the pain.  The pain is definately throbbing in that the extreme pain lasts maybe 30 seconds to a min. and then dies off and comes back again in cycles until the advil kicks in.  The odd thing is that the headaches are almost by the clock.  I get them at 2:00 am and 3:30 PM every day and this has been the case every time I go through these periods.
The period tends to last about 2 weeks and they go away again for another 5 years.  In between the 5 years I often get sinus headaches as I have pretty bad allergies and bad sinus' but nothing that can considered anything like the ones that come every 5 years.
Every time I go through these 2 week periods I see a doctor, however my doctor has never been the same for 2 periods as my medical coverage and moving has caused me to switch doctors.  The first 2 times I got them my doctor basically attributed it to allergies and told me to take OTC pain killers to get rid of them.  The last doctor I went to thought it was a sinus infection brought on by allergies or a cold.  He wanted me to take antibiotics and felt that if they did not go away I should go for some testing including cat scans etc.  Well, I took the antibiotics and in about 2 weeks they went away so I never went for more testing.
Well, now it is 5 years later and now that this is the 4th timein my life I am getting these I am starting to think this will be a permanent part of my life.  I am planning on going to the doctor on Monday as the first one of these came back Friday night at 2:00 am and have been having them since.
I have been trying to do some research on this but figured if anyone had any suggestions or any ideas on what this is or similar experiences I would appreciate it.  Sorry for the long post I just want to make sure I include everything.
Thanks for any help,

Have you ever read any information on Cluster Headaches? I can't say for sure, but this sounds a little like Cluster Patterns, and  clusters often occur more in males than females...

Let me find some info for you, so check back in the next day or so!

Thanks for stopping in, and Welcome!

Hi Sara, Thanks very much for the info.  I have actually never even heard of a cluster headache as I always just assumed what I was getting was a type of migraine.  I will definately do some research.
