Just a question about migraines. Is it normal to have more then  two migraines a month??? My hubby has several migraines a month and I don't know how to help him. His physician told him that migraines are caused from busted blood vessels in his brain.
I know it can't be normal to have several migraines a month if it is caused by busted blood vessels in his brain. I am so confused about migraines. I have only had one in my life but I think it was brought on by the loss of my father. I was totally stressed out about that. Any advice about migraines would be totally grateful.
I want to help him out like is helps me but I don't know what to do and then I get stressed because I can't help him and stress is not good for me illness. **sigh** eyes

Patty~

I have several migraines a month, so his two or more per month are not anything out of the ordinary for someone suffering with migraines. If your husband is having more than two per month he needs to see his doctor for a preventative medication (to keep from having as many and/or more severe migraines)

Patty, the best suggestion I can make is to get yourself a book about migraines or do some research online...that way you will have a better understanding of what is happening to your husband and what you can do to help him cope with them.

Some of my best suggestions for loved ones is to (during a migraine) be as quiet as possible, offer things like heating pad or ice, offer to do things that the person with a migraine should be doing, make sure your migraineur has something to eat and is in a cool, quiet, dark room...I find personally that I want people to offer to get or do things for me, and then let me be alone so I can try to sleep through the pain.

Patty...please feel free to ask us questions or give us updates. If you need specific info, let me know...I will be glad to share.

Sara,
Thank you for your suggestion about getting a book on migraines or doing research online. (duh, should have thought of that one). LOL.
Anyways, hubby says that he finds a quiet dark room to be the best. He also uses a canning jar full of hot water with a towel wrapped around it.
He takes Imitrex 100mg already but he goes back to the doctor March 1st. Hopefully he can help him more then. Will keep you posted.

Thanks Patty...

one other suggestion, have your husband or  yourself write down his headache patters. What time it his, what he takes, pain on a scale of 1-10, any relief from meds or hot pack...this will help the doctor as well as the two of you keep track of when things are happening to see any possible patters or triggers. Don't be surprised if the doc wants to put him on a preventative...I see that as the next step.

Hang in there and I look forward to an update from you!
