I have been taking 25mg of Atenolol a preventative (prophylactic) since August of '04 . I have had 2 attacks since being on the drug, one sent me to the ER and the second was almost as nasty. I start with a slight head ache, that worsens. I need to defecate and then begin to vomit. It is not untill I throw up at least three times that I can fall asleep. What is my next step?. I am tired of the vomiting and feeling wasted for two days afterwards?

Pastor-

Are you seeing a neurologist or headache specialist? What have they suggested you do for abortives or rescue meds?

For example, I take topamax daily to prevent migraine attacks and then I take imitrex injections and reglan (for nausea) when I feel a migraine coming on and if they continue past two injection then I can move to "rescue" medications and take something for pain, so I don't end up in the ER.

I have tried lots of other things such as chiropractic and physical therapy as well...

I am just trying to think of a few things...

Let us know how you are doing.

Topamax, Zonegran, Neurontin are all seizure meds that can help with severe migraines and headaches. Some antidepressants also seem to work for some people....
