Hi all I am new to the migraine board, I am usually posting in the Crohn's disease section. I several weeks ago I started getting migraines with auras. Once while I was driving, the aura lasted 30 minutes and the headache started on the left side of my head and traveled to the right side over the course of three days. Then I got the aura again several days later while reading and the headache never fully went way for about 3 weeks. During this time I had a procedure where I was sedated and I woke up from it with the aura and vision loss that lasted about 15 minutes. Now I woke up today with another aura. For days before it comes on my vision will feel off like something is welling up. Once the aura happens I usually get a sense of release but they have been happening so close together lately that one sometimes melds onto the next time. My gastroenterologist and primary care doctors were both concerned a few weeks ago because I'm on Remicade for the crohns which could cause some pretty terrible side effects and I have a history of collecting bad side effects. They felt the migraines could be a sign of something worse and got me a neuro appointment right away. Unfortunately the neurologist said I'm not even going to look at your history, just based on your age and gender I'm confident it is migraines, (no reason why). He did do an MRI which came back fine. do you normally wake up with auras? It's so scary to me to open eyes and have half my vision gone!any insight is greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to the forum.

I think, I would get a 2nd opinion by another Neuro, just to be sure.
You never know, better safe than sorry.

Does sound like classic migraines.

I wake up with Auras most mornings, bright colors, blocks my vision, lasts about 30min.

I also get bright white flickers auras that disturb my sight, on my periferal vision, happens anytime 24/7.

Lost of sight is a condition attached to migraines for some people

In our resource threat at the top off this forum is a link to the Migraine Diet, some times this helps reduce the events.

Thanks so much BnotAfraid!
My auras are usually an area of shaky brightness that eventually turns into greying out of the peripheral.
Does your vision get funny before it happens? I noticed that every time before an aura my vision gets off like out of focus. If the full blown aura doesn't materialize I get left with visual issue for hours to days on and off when I read or move my eyes fast until I finally get he aura which relieves it.
My diet is pretty good but thanks for the info, I have to be very careful about what I eat because of the Crohn's disease so I've already eliminated pretty much everything dietwise that could influence this. I'm pretty sure it's the medication I'm on for the Crohns but I don't want to stop it and loose it as an option for controlling the disease.

Yeah, that is the ***** of a thing with multiple illness's.

One medicine is awesome, however the side effects create another condition.

I was on Mexatiline for 6mos. Worked great for my migraines. But the muscle tremors were so bad, it like I was having a seizure.
And now, I have PERMENT muscle twitch's and shaky hands.

Can't change it, have to accept it.

I am sorry you have Crohn's, that is a terrible thing to handle. All I have to do is lay down in a darkened room.

Yes, my sight gets bad if I watch to much TV or am on computer more than an hour. Because I have auras every day not I barely notice the bluryness.

Lack of sight, and Psych issues, plus the chronic pain has put me on permenant disability.

I wish you Peace and strength!

thats absolutely terrible! It always makes me nervous to try new medications because i never know what the side effects will be and i seem to get a lot of them. I am so sorry you have had to deal with all of this.
The auras seem to be more and more frequent for me where they don't progress to actual scotomas but instead leave my vision feeling off and slightly out of focus. the vision issues started again yesterday and today i started to get a burning sore sick headache that is a bit different than previous ones. the migraine medications don't seem to be stopping it for some reason, so I'm just trying to push through as best as possible. plus i think its made my hand get tingly with pins and needles. :( i have developed joint issues from my one medication that i may be developing antibodies to so I'm starting to think it might all be connected. I'm giving it one more shot with an infusion of it at the end of the month and deeply hoping if i have any problems, they go away if i am off of it.
wishing you peace and strength as well!
