Hello Everybody,

My name is Stephanie and I'm 20 years old. I have had daily chronic headaches/migraines for the past 15 years. I don't know what it feels like to not have a headache or a migraine. I am looking for opinions and suggestions on how to get to the bottom of them and figure out what is wrong and/or treat them. Here is my background story and what I have tried. Thank you in advance for taking your time to read this.

When I was 6 years old, I was diagnosed with Asthma. Around this time I started having daily headaches and migraines. When I was 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Because of the Celiac Disease, I developed severe OCD and Anxiety and became lactose intolerant from the damage in my intestines. When I was 12, I was diagnosed with Scoliosis and when I was 13 I had Spinal Fusion surgery and the lower vertebrates of my spine are fused and my upper spine is still curved, but cannot get worse. I also have chronic kidney stones, and things like allergies, etc.

That is my background with illnesses...now here are the things I have tried. I've had one MRI where they found nothing wrong. They've put me on certain pain killers but the side effects were awful and they didn't help my migraines. I've tried multiple diet changes for long periods of time, such as no dairy/MSG/etc. I've tried therapy at Mary Free Bed, and multiple herbal supplements such as FeverFew and ButterBurr. Nothing has helped. The only way I can find relief is 2 Advil and 1 Excedrin, but this does not work all of the time. Caffeine seems to help sometimes as well, such as drinking coffee or soda, but I have to be careful with dark sodas because of my kidneys. Sometimes sleep helps, but normally only if it's a long rest, not a nap. I've tried heat, ice, baths, dark, quiet, etc...nothing seems to help. Things like loud noises, florescent lights, little sleep, storms, and scents all trigger migraines or make them worse as well.

For the types of headaches/migraines I have, I get them all. I get cluster headaches where it's focused behind one eye, tension migraines, neck pain...you name it, I have it. It's never consistent, it's always a different type of headache/migraine or pain, and some days I wake up with a bad one right away, and others I wake up with a small headache that then progresses throughout the day. Some days it never progresses into a migraine, just a headache, but those are rare. The symptoms are always different depending on the headache/migraine as well. Some make me nauseous, dizzy, some hurt my eyes, some make it impossible to be in the light, some keep me from sleeping, some are worse when I move - it's always different. I also always have a stuffy nose - I saw some other people mention this so I figured it was worth it to mention it.

I do my best to live life to the fullest, but it's hard to be my best when I'm in constant pain. I am a dancer and I do stay active and fit. I'm getting tired of it...I just want to be pain free. I rather find the cause of the problem and fix it instead of covering it up with pain meds. I just want to be the very best I can be and reach my fullest potential in life and it's so difficult and draining with a pounding migraine all of the time. I don't want to complain, I know people have it worse in life, but I'm just tired of it and I want answers.

So if any of you have any suggestions about anything such as what do try next, or where to go, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it. If I forgot to mention something that you would like to know, feel free to ask. I'm looking for all the help I can get.

Tension headaches are a side effect of something else.

Perhaps anxiety.

Have you looked into mindfulness or meditation to try and relax yourself?

Do you grind your teeth? Here is a link I would like to share with you. Please take a moment to read it and try the exercises, the more you do them the easier they become. I personally know that the actions become part of your daily life, before you know it.
