|Hi plz help if possible... Im Aaron im new to the group... I have been suffering from extremely severe migraines for sumtime now only on the left side of my head its like a sharp stabbing pain.. i have been to my doctors on numerous occasions he's prescribed me various different medications.. Betablockers 80mg,Pristofixine prigatobine nor sure if those are the correct spellings sorry, everytime i go to my doctors he dosnt like precribing different medication becoz they can become addicted so in my case what does he want me to do seriously...plz get bk to me thanks any advice wud be great thankyou|

|Hi Aaron & welcome to Healing Well. I am not sure what kind of dr is treating you, it sounds like a general practitioner. If this is true, by all means ask to be referred to a neurologist. A good neurologist has more experience in this area. If you are currently under the care of one, get another opinion. I am not sure what you meant by becoming addicted to the medicine unless you are speaking about narcotics. Many narcotics can cause rebound headaches & there are medications available to help treat migraines that are not narcotics.|

Migraines are tough, I have been living with clusters since Junior High, 2006. I dx'd with Trigeminal Neuralgia and Hemicrania Continua and Atypica face pain. Some is caused by damage to the back of me head.
My daily pain level is a 5-7 avg. I have yet ton find a neurologist that can bring it down to 3-5. Very manageable for me.
I currently am try to decided between finding a Neuro-Physchologist. or a Pain management
Since I have CPTSD. the first may be optimal.
A lot I control from diet, meditation.
The take 250mg of topomax a day as my base maintance med. the other change all the time.
I did find noticeable relieve 2 years about when I drastically changed my diet.
32oz of water or more a day
Juice with out any additives
NO CAFFIENE - it is only with the occasion magraine that this works
this means NONE, no power drinks, no soda, no chocolate in any form,
Whole Foods [fresh produce] as much as possible]
NO red meat. chicken, fish[ no bottom feeders]
NO ARTIFICAL INGRIDIANTS, NO ARTIFICAL FLAVORS, COLORS, ESP. RED, YELLOW AND BLUE

One thing that helped me a lot was keeping a migraine calendar. Get one of those ones with squares that you can fill in. Put in where exactly the migraine pain started, whether there were any warning signs like tingling or a sense of fullness inside your head, what you took or did, and whether or not it worked. It can help you spot patterns, like whether migraines are more likely in summer or winter, or when in the week.
You say you get pain on the left side. One thing that can trigger that kind of pain is teeth clenching, so if you do that, work on stopping it. Also, avoid squinting - use glasses if you need them to see and sunglasses outdoors. Both those things, squinting and clenching, can irritate the trigeminal nerve which is on the side of the head and is one of the nerves involved in migraines. Good luck!
