I've been searching through the posts, and can not find anything similar to what I am experiencing.

So here is my dilemma, this may be a bit lengthy, so I apologize in advance:

I am a 25 year old female, I eat very healthy, I follow an acidic-alkaline PH balanced diet, and drink tons of water. I try to stay away from a lot of dairy and a lot of gluten. I do not drink alcohol except for a very occasional glass of red wine with dinner, I do not take illegal drugs, I do not take any medication including antibiotics or even aspirin. I do not drink caffeine or take other stimulants.

I've always had a light feeling or sensation of "heart flutter" or heart palpitation. I can remember the first one arriving when I was about 16 during a very stressful situation at school. It didn't scare me then, and never has scared me all the times it's happened since then, maybe once every one to two years. I do have acute anxiety that I do not take any medications for, that I have dealt with since I was maybe 10-11 years old, and have always had good control over it.

about 5-6 months ago, I was sitting down eating dinner, noticed that I had a somewhat upset stomach - gas, bloating and gurgling. I had a very LARGE thump of a palpitation during the middle of a bite of food. It stopped me completely, really scared me and I rushed to the bathroom to splash water on my face and my heart began to race. It continued to race for a good three hours until I was so exhausted from the adrenaline pumping through me that I fell asleep. I starting having these palpitations more frequently after that night, maybe three of four a day. each equally as scary and I started becoming nervous of night fall because that's when it would happen. I wouldn't be doing anything in particular, just sitting watching a movie, or eating dinner, but they usually came late at night after about 8pm.

I went to the doctor many times, I've had everything checked from overgrowth of bacteria, to candida, I've had blood drawn for thyroid tests, I've had ekg's and heart monitors that never seem to pick anything up, but my doctor heard one through her stethoscope and said my heart is beating strong and healthy, it doesn't sound as if it's skipping a beat or if it's irregular, rather that it's pausing, she explained that the palpitation is occurring because something about my blood pumping too fast, so my heart is pushing it backwards to catch up so thats the sensation I'm feeling, but that it was benign and wouldn't hurt me. She said that I am perfectly healthy in all areas and that I have the basic symptoms of IBS, and there isn't much I can do for it, except maybe peppermint oils, teas, and relaxing, as it was stress related. BUT I never started feeling stressed out or anxious until I started having the palpitations, and I got the palpitations because I was stressed out about them...vicious circle.

So as advised I changed my diet I began taking magnesium, and other vitamins and minerals, I drink chamomile tea, ginger tea, take peppermint oils, and other holistic ways to eliminate my IBS symptoms. These have helped. I try to take them as regularly and often as directed.

I feel as though when I start to get a lot of gas build up, or a lot of gurgling and bubbling, my heart palpitations begin to flare up. Not necessarily coming from what or when I eat, but just when my IBS symptoms begin to flare up. Which is about every 4-5 days for about 2 days at a time. Then everything will cool down and I wont have symptoms of gas, or heart palpitations. Then about 4 days go by and they all begin again.

I'm wondering if there has been any study or anyone is having similar reactions to IBS, relating to heart flutters or anything?

I've also noticed that sometimes I'll get the palpitations from moving quickly, or bending over, also just thinking about it too much triggers them.

So I would like to know if anyone has any advice, or known remedies. Also if anyone has any known ideas on how to reduce them, or exercises you can do to prevent the recurrence?

 Absolutely the palps have alot to do with IBS and Gerds( reflux) and stay away from peppermint of any kind its the worst thing for gas, acid reflux, and hiatal hernia.  No onions, garlic, tomato sauces, peppermint or mints of any kind. Do not eat large meals Small meals maybe 4/5 times a day and never eat after 7 pm.  Magnesium does help the palps, definitely. Do not take 250mgs at a pop my Dr. says break them in half and take 125mg with breakfast lunch and dinner. I am now taking 375mgs a day and the heart jumping rolling and racing is almost completely gone!! Also when you obsess over them the palps get worse, remember, when they happen they are benign they wont kill you people on the anxiety forum sight have been living with them for 25 yrs and it hasnt killed them!! Breathe deeply through your nose hold it count of four and breathe out your mouth, cleansing calming breathes. Four counts for about 10 minutes or more, relaxing shoulders. Take yoga and meditation like Tai Chi, Chi Gung. Calm your mind.  I hope the things that have helped me will help u. By the way, my gastritis would start my palpitations. I would feel like my heart was jumping out of my chest. I know how you feel exactly.

Do some searching at the GERD forum and you may find some of my posts about tachycardia triggered by your stomach.  It's called cardioesophageal reflex or linked angina.  I've had it from gas, esophageal irritation and incipient diverticulitis with abscess.
 
You may also have a specific food trigger as I found I have.  Keep a food log for a month or two, noting date, time, exactly what you eat and drink, along with your reactions an hour and two hours later.  After you find some foods, you have to break them down to ingredients.  For me it wasn't the waffle, it was the maple syrup.  It wasn't the hamburger, it was the condiments.  You can also do "challenge testing" to figure out ingredients.
 
If you get a list of foods you can see if they are related by searching for the food with the term food allergy.  I found my entire list under sulfites.  If you can't drink wine or beer, or even more than a can of soda, that could be your trigger.

Forgot to mention - to stop tach learn to do a valsalva maneuver. Bear down like having a bowel movement and hold it for a few seconds. If a few of those doesn't help, try coughing. A good burp can also stop it.

Don't let tach go too long. 3 hours is way to long. Get to the ER. They can give you meds to get the tach stopped. If you let it continue it can cause an artery in the heart to spasm and pinch and possibly rupture some plaque, causing a heart attack. I've had this too.

Thank you both for the information, I have never heard of GERD, so I will be looking into that definitely! My doctor mentioned nothing of the sort to me, so I will be asking her for information as well. As far as the tach - it only happened that one time because it scared me, my heart has never raced like that since then...if it does, it happens for a min or two and then slows immediately, but it hasn't happened in a couple months.

I noticed that the less processed foods and more veggies I eat, it seems to help quite a bit, I also gave up dairy for the most part and that also helps, but I will try keeping a food log and see if I can find the exact culprit.

I really appreciate your replies, it helps more than you know.

So, I just looked up information about GERD and the symptoms of GERD, and I don't seem to have any of those symptoms. It talks about heart burn, acid reflux, and regurgitation, and I have none of those symptoms. I just get very bloated, have occasional diarrhea, and gurgling way deep down in my belly. It has never given me heart burn or acid reflux, it just stays down in my belly, and the gas will sometimes travel upwards, but that's about it.

Could it still be GERD that is effecting me, or can IBS do the same thing with the palpitations?

Since I have been reading on this forum and others, I have monitored my palps today and found they are related to my eating- been off caffeine for two weeks, changing over trying to get rid of the white refind sugars, and take CardioCentrum multivit., fishoil, eating nuts, and exercising 30 min. every day. I am on propanolol and baby asprin per day, including magnesium.

Bloating and gas can be related to maldigestion, usually fromsoluble fiber, artificial sweeteners, sugars, complex carbohydrates, sodas. It can be from celiac, appendix, gallbl adder. Adding probiotics and yogurt can help. If there is dairrhea Rifoximin can help.

Keeping a food log will help determine if there are specific food triggers. Then you look up your foods with the words food allergy to see if there is something about the foods. My specific trigger is sulfite, found in all sorts of places you wouldn't expect. Another example could be MSG, which is also hidden in foods.

These food triggers cause reflux, which you might even not notice! The reflux can trigger tachycardia or coronary artery spasms. Mine even caused a heart attack after the coronary artery spasm caused a plaque rupture, blocking the artery 95%. A little worse and I would have died. So now I avoid sulfited foods and have lots less trouble.

Yes, IBS can be a heart trigger. I just got over an event where I had severe diarrhea and didn't know the cause. Then a few hours later I had refractory tachycardia for 5 hours and needed a heart restart. Then a few hours later I had severe abdominal pain from an abscessed diverticulum which had been forming. The diverticulitis, I'm sure, was the cause of the heart reaction. The GI tract is connected to the heart by the vagus nerve. The problem is called cardio-esophageal reflex, or linked angina.

I feel as if I'm going in circles here. I have been monitoring and keeping a food log for the past couple of days, no heart palps as of yet, but I feel like keeping a food log may do no good, I eat pretty much all natural foods, I eat the same thing every morning, I have a routine to drinking my water, and usually I will only eat fresh veggies, fresh cooked meats, and I hardly ever have any refined sugar or any other types of "bad" foods. But even throughout the holiday, I ate things my family made, including pumpkin pie, pecan pie, stuffing, gravy, etc etc and noticed no heart palpitations but still had the gurgling, gas, and other symptoms.

I have been looking into the GERD and linked angina, and I just feel as if I'm not having those types of symptoms. It's just not clicking to me. Every once in a great while, I will have very minor acid reflux if I eat too much or have something that is very salty, but its been a very long time since that has actually happened. I do not have any chest pains, sometimes very light dull pains in my arm or atop my chest but I think that is anxiety messing with me, as it is never a feeling inside my chest its always an outer surface feeling.

I've been tested for all sorts of things including celiac, thyroids, candida, digestive problems, etc etc, and the best thing my doctor can come up with is IBS. She says she does not feel that I have GERD.

I don't know..I just feel very worn out, and like I'm running in circles to just find out that what I'm looking up or trying, is not what I have, and is not working.

Also a strange thing has begun to happen for the past three days and comes and goes very periodically through out the day. This may sound very strange and I have not yet consulted with my doctor as it just started...it feels as if my anus is buzzing... it's the strangest thing I have ever felt. It feels as if for about 2-3 seconds it buzzes, or like vibrates as if I'm passing gas, but I'm not. It startled me the first time because it felt as if I accidentally let gas pass, but then it started happening again and it just feels like a vibration or buzz or bubbling? I can't explain that either.

Also I don't remember if I mentioned before that I also have lots of twitching. I get muscles twitches, and spasms in various places of my body at various times through out the day. I feel it's more than a normal person's spasms. I'm also starting to notice a great deal of hair loss in the front of my hair line. It's noticeably thinner and I'm not sure if either of those things can attribute to any of the rest of it, but I felt I might as well mention it anyway.

I don't really know what to do, I'm only 25 years old, my doctor says I'm in great health and nothing is wrong with me physically except for the IBS. My heart is in fine condition, I'm sleeping fine, in fact it's my favorite thing to do because when I sleep I don't have to worry about whats going on with my body. I've never been one to dwell or freak out about things like this, but it's starting to get to me, because I can physically feel these things happening and no one seems to know what it is causing it.

I suppose the best thing I can do is to continue to keep a food log and see if I can find something that links up with food intake.
If anyone has suggestions on how to reduce the IBS, gas, bubbling, gurgling, etc please let me know.

Keep on with the food log. It takes a couple of months minimum to figure out connections.

Natural foods still have things in them - naturally - that are food triggers! Lots of people react to fruit sugars. (Not all sugar is table sugar - sucrose.) Grapes and pork have sulfites - naturally. So do onions and garlic. So does anything made from corn - corn syrup, dextrose, corn starch, etc.

Gas is caused by the bacteria in your gut digesting all sorts of things that you can't - soluble fiber from things like oatmeal,artificial sweeteners, all sorts of sugars, complex carbohydrates. Rice is one of the few things that does not cause gas.

You could be lactose intolerant. I don't even tolerate most brands of yogurt because of lactose and additives. But adding yogurt a couple of times a day plus probiotics is a pretty good thing to try to help with maldigestion.

I can only say I am so happy to have found this forum, I know I have IBS and GERD, but never felt the palpation's until the other day, and it scared me!! I did notice I had a lot of gurgling in my stomach but was not burping or not to be rude, passing gas..I also noticed with every gurgle i felt a palp. I do suffer from Anxiety, but I don't think the anxiety kicked in until I felt the palps. Not that I'm happy anyone else suffers from it but it does make me feel a little better to know I am not alone and crazy..lol..I read a post someone wrote about magnesium and gaviscon. Gas X also helps me. I ran to the pharmacy and purchased.. Centrum Cardio health, and magnesium. I also take zantac. Since I do take Prozac, i spoke with my pharmacist to make sure it was ok to take everything else. He mentioned palps are common with both GERD and IBS and recommended I try Oral Aloe, he said not only does it help but it does promote healing. I went to GNC and got it, it's inexpensive and the cashier said he uses it for erosion in the esophagus along with a change in diet. I got the berry flavor and it taste ok, just chill it and drink it fast!! I am willing to try anything, because as harmless as I have been told the palps are for me they are scary!! I try to understand that they come along with the IBS symptoms, like bloating, gurgling feeling. I hope I can make someone else feel a little better too!! Thank you to everyone who shares their symptoms!! HERE IS TO FEELING BETTER!!!!!!! yeah

Starting your own "new topic" is a good way of getting more people to respond. This one's from last year. But we're glad to meet you!

For palpitations see a cardiologist. A few palps are not unusual as far as I know, but if you have concerns it's always best to get checked out by a medical professional. We're just professional patients here on the forum. I wouldn't be taking any medications, even over the counter, for heart problems or serious stomach problems either, without consulting my physician.

As I noted above, the stomach and all the gut are connected to the heart by the nervous system. The specific symptom that was being discussed was rapid heart beat, not palpitations. Maybe that could be triggered by the gut too, but I haven't read anything about it, or at least I haven't connected it. I get a lot of palps, but my cardiologist isn't worried about them. The rapid heart, when it wouldn't slow down, sent me to the hospital once.

Thank you Alcie, I have read a lot on people who have palps due to GERD and IBS, that is why I posted my story....I have even read under IBS symptoms and it says heart palps, i believe it is a vegus nerve that gets irritated. Thank you for your advice, it is appreciated, my dr. said my heart is fine. I have suffered from GERD really bad for a long time. I am 35 yrs old, I have lost 70 pounds , i was very overweight, my GERD has gotten better except when I of course eat what I'm not supposed, u know the temptations..lol....When I read about the symptoms other sufferers have had with palps due to IBS and GERD, it made a lot of sense to me. I really thought i was crazy!! I sometimes make myself so nervous about the palps, I think I actually bring them on.......I did post my story in both GERD and IBS as a new topic and hope to get some feedback. Thank you again!

Hi going -
Keep a food log, noting what you eat and drink, meds, then what symptoms you have. For me, my stomach issues happen in a half hour to 2 hours. I think my lower GI issues take longer. I should go into my journals and find out. People with migraines associated with food intolerances can have their reactions up to 2 days later.

It takes a couple of months to get a list of food triggers, then a little Googling to see what the ingredients are in the foods that are causing the issues.

I don't necessarily have trouble with acid foods. Tomatoes are fine. My triggers all have sulfite in large quantities. I am finding I am becoming sensitive to wheat too. Knowing my triggers keeps me out of the hospital and not have anxiety.

Hi Everyone,
So I am the original poster to this thread, and I wanted to just update everyone.

I can now say that my palps are gone.

In my post I told you I was suffering with very strange bouts of gas, and diarrhea, also having lots of other problems along the way. I was told I was suffering from IBS and Anxiety by doctors, but I always felt like there was an underlying problem or that I was fixable.

First of all they were trying to get me to take Anxiety medication on top of IBS problems. When you're suffering from IBS or any intestinal problems for that matter you SHOULD NOT take any type of prescription medication unless you were previously taking it, or it's a life and death situation, but adding anxiety medication on to my already upset stomach made everything WORSE. It unbalanced my intestinal flora and made me nauseous, I was not having regular bowl movements for days at a time, and I was feeling EXTREMELY miserable, BUT I do believe I've found a cure for myself.

After being told twice that there was nothing I could do, just deal with my IBS and palps, and try to eat healthy yahta yahta, I quickly changed doctors again and again until I found one that didn't just write me off. My new doctor took the regular blood/stool/urine tests and said that all my results were coming up normal but that she wasn't going to write me off, she asked a lot of questions and finally suggested I look into holistic remedies because she felt I should not be taking the anxiety medication if it's making the original problem worse. She told me that possibly looking into doing holistic remedies I could over come my IBS easily. By that statement alone I have started to realize that many western doctors are not really interested in "curing" you, just interested in getting you to come back to pay for more drugs, appointments, etc. I don't know about you, but I don't want to have to take medication unless I really need it, and this time I really didn't.

I looked up holistic remedies for IBS and palpitations and began asking around and doing a lot of research with holistic healers/doctors/nutritionists etc. I found out that a lot of times palps, gerd, gas, and acid reflux can come from toxic build up's in your colon due to how we defecate incorrectly. Humans were made to hunch over and squat down to eliminate our bowls to help push everything out, but because we sit up-right on top of a toilet and eat a lot of junk foods all of it gets built up and stuck in our intestines causing a build up of bacteria ultimately causing things like gas, gerd, and palps.

*Please note that if you have a hiatal hernia or other complication like it, this is not the approach for you, and stick with your doctors advice*

I started with a natural colon cleanse called The Ultimate Cleanse to flush out any built up toxins I may have. I did a 2 week cleanse and within only a couple of days my gas, my palps, and my acid reflux came to a halt. I also started as advised on an all-organic diet, removing all processed sugars, breads, yeasts etc. For two weeks during the cleanse I ate raw and steamed organic veggies, eggs in any style, and low fat meats only. After the two week detox I started to introduce things back into my system but slowly. Now I continue to eat only organic foods that are not processed, and do not contain MSG, Aspartame, or other synthetic ingredients. I also stay away from sodas, instead I go for organic ginger ale, and I do occasionally drink coffee but only from organically grown beans. I do not drink dairy from cows milk because I've always had an intolerance with it so I use goats milk products or soy products instead. One thing I have added to my diet is an ancient fermented tea called Kombucha. You drink 1 bottle/12oz a day, which puts good yeasts, Vitamin B's, and live probiotics back into your intestines. It also helped me to start growing back my hair, and I feel less hungry and get less crazy cravings for high sugar/carb meals. I am happy to say that I am now palp and IBS free for 2 months. I have only had one very small palp about 2 weeks ago after indulging in a very heavy carb filled meal at a friends house that mostly likely wasn't organic products.

So I don't know about your situation or what you've tried or been told to do, but you may want to give some of this a try...if not all of it, just try a colon cleanse, because for me the colon cleanse was one missing ingredient. I had tried the yeast free diet thinking it was Candida, which was basically what I was eating during the detox; just veggies, eggs, and meat, and still I would get the palps and gas. After I was advised to try it again but organically, and with the cleanse is when it changed. It couldn't hurt to try it, and it may work for you too, because I seriously tried EVERYTHING I found information about. I went to see numerous doctors, had numerous tests, (and paid tons of bills) tried numerous diets, tried exercising 5 days a week, and took vitamins and minerals thinking maybe I was deficient in some area, and it just went on and on and on, and all the gas and palps were still there everyday. Now, I felt better with no anxiety, no upset stomach issues, I never feel bloated or sick anymore, and I feel like I honestly got my life back.

Here is a list of what I did, and the things that seemed to work for me, still I would advise that you talk to your doctor about the things I have done, and see if they would work with your medication or lifestyle, or even better try talking to a holistic doctor like this one: http://www.doctorajadams.com/CREDENTIALS2.html - she will answer your questions in email form as well! I also advise taking down a food journal, because it may just be one specific thing that is bugging you, but if you are like me, and you've tried eliminating certain foods, tried certain diets, and it doesn't seem to help, maybe this is the thing for you too:

Here is what I did & continue to do:

-Take an organic over the counter colon cleanse or colon detox kit once or twice a year as needed. (do not use more than 1 month at a time) until your bowl movements are back to 2-3 regular movements per day.

-During detox eliminate all processed foods, carbs, and sugars for at least 2-4 weeks; eating only organic veggies, organic meats, and organic antibiotic free eggs.

-Take a comprehensive liquid organic vitamin daily- found in most health/vitamin store.

-Try to stay away from too much yeast & alcohol during and after the cleanse. (beer, wine, liquor, breads, pastries, etc)

-After your detox period is over slowly introduce new things into your diet like organic breads - fruits - fiber cereals - oatmeal, one at a time 2 or 3 times a week at most.

-Exercise regularly - take a 45 min yoga class, do 30 mins at the gym, take a bike ride, or at least just a brisk walk up and down your street - 3-4 times a week.

-Eat only organic foods free of processed ingredients, MSG, Aspartame, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, etc.

-Drink 1 12 oz. Kombucha bottle a day for 1 month and notice a HUGE difference after or during your detox! (can be found at most organic food markets like Henry's or Whole Foods, or online at www.kombucha2000.com) Buy the brands made in dark brown bottles as it preserves the live yeast better. It tastes much like a sweetened apple cider, and it may be a bit strange and not what you're used to at first but after a few tries it's amazing!

Give this a try after talking to your doctor and let me know if this or something else has worked for you!

I am almost constantly naseus. I also get palps. My stomach/intestines are always upset. I take wheat germ and ground flax everyday in my juice. I take a very mild laxative every few days because things just stop moving and if they stop long enough it's absolute torture just to go a little. I have to stay on top of it. With the nausea, sometimes deep breathing and burping helps. So drink something carbonated without caffeine. I'm thinking chugging ginger ale might work well.
 
I also though a gassy stomach might press on the heart area a little and magnify the beats and that's what we are feeling.

I read your story and you are not alone!!! I am on my third Doctor as you read my story, I had my first palpitation at about 16 years old also, I did not think anything of it, but back in 1993 I had my heart broke by this guy and the rejection was sooooo overwhelming that I loss 30 pounds in 30 days!!! This is sooooo true!!! after losing all that weight, I started having severe palpitations that no one would believe!!! I went to a heart Doctor told him what happend to me, he prescribed me these pills to set the rythm back, now I did not have any more palpitations until about 2 years ago, I was under alot of stress also, I will tell you that lately I've noticed that when I have a palpitation it is followed by GAS!!! I am telling you the truth!!! I am going to have a device put into my chest in April to moniter my heart, but I will tell you that, I am a 46 year old female and I am very Healthy also, never Drank or smoke!! I don't party, I get my rest, I donot excersice but I weigh about 179 lbs my height is 5ft 5 inches I also donot take any medications of any sort, so when I started reading your story I thought of myself only, but hang in there sweetie, You'll find a doctor do get to the root of the problem ok.

Hello all :) Thank you very much for this forum!! I've been having these issues for years!! Yes, that's right years! I've been to three Cardiologist's and finally the last one ( a woman ) told me I have PAC's...premature atrial contractions...sometimes referred to as heart palpitations (which can refer to a number of things). She also said I could be feeling gas backing up into my hiatal (pardon the incorrect spelling but even spell check doesn't recognize this one) hernia. In addition to that I have GERD as well as IBS. I am fat (237lbs.), fair skinned, and over forty. Oh yes, and menopausal hahaha. I want to tell you these "episodes/spells" are real. If you are here then more than likely you are having them too. You're not going nuts :) I have...sheesh it's hard to put into words...... the bubbling gassiness in my stomach, what feels like stomach spasms, chest pain, arm pain, PAC's, and fluttering.(the fluttering feels like when you have a muscle spasm in your leg or something but this is in my chest)...all of which induces a bit of anxiety that leads to nausea, diarrhea, and I get so cold I shake and shiver hard. I take Dexilant 60mg once a day for the GERD and Bystolic 10 mg for high systolic blood pressure and to help with the PAC's. I have found that hot tea (Chamomile with Lavender) with honey Helps. I also add Simplers "stress relief" tincture, chamomile tincture, ginger root,lemon balm tincture, and skullcap tincture to the tea. This combo seems to help...at least some. The Chamomile is an antispasmodic, the ginger for nausea, and the others for general well being. I am in the middle of an episode now. Ugh...I have to talk myself out going to the ER...I know in my brain it's fine and this too shall pass...but in the middle of it, it seems so strange. I am a Christian woman, not afraid to die, I know where I'm going :) but these things do make you feel weird!! I hope just knowing you're not the only one going through this helps!!

I get this 2. I'm 27 and i am average weight don't smoke hardly drink and i noticed one day at breakfast i had a weird feeling that came over me. As i try to ignore it i get a hard thud. I jumped i was so scared with that i had anxiety for a week in fear this would happen again and of course. It did. Me constantly thinking about it doesn't help!
Don't get me wrong i have had these flutters before but they never scared me like now. I sometimes feel like i have to cough to get right. It tends to help. I called the cardio dr i went to eval and she said its normal for ppl to have flutters.. sone ppl can feel them some ppl can't!

I, too, am grateful for this thread because I've had fluttering and rapid heart beat at night on an off for a few months. I also had it in the middle of the day at work and things were not very stressful atm, and I was mentally feeling fine outside the feelings of heart fluttering and associated light headedness as well as mildly increased heart rate (though not always or substantially for me). I finally noticed that it's related to my stomach issues as often I'd have to go to the bathroom during or after a nighttime episode. Most recently, I ate a bunch of beans and behind a lot of starchy foods like bagels (and my stomach's recovery from Thanksgiving still was in progress). In this recent situation, I've had bloating/gas but it largely was blocked and this seems to have cause a multiple day episode! It's no fun and had me considering the ER and mentioning it to friends (in case I pass out on them). So I finally took some laxative today and I feel lot better after having moved my bowels (I was/am constipated as usual), and the letting some gas out (sorry to be graphic) is making me feel normal again, thank goodness. It's such an awful feeling having anything odd with one's heart and makes you want to run to the ER and panic sets in. But I can just picture all the tests and stuff they'd run, and it's not like I have chest pain. Plus I have NO insurance so the bills would most certainly give me chest pain once those rolled in! For the time being, I'm going to be more careful with my diet and see if I can manage it. I appreciate the input about trigger foods as "acidy" stuff does seem to be involved (tomato) but for me it's also any sort of beans (gas) and too much bread (constipation). I agree with one comment above that hot Chamomile tea seems to help though somewhat temporarily. I've used melatonin to calm myself and am taking some aspirin daily (just in case). Getting warm helps, too. But some of these symptoms could be related to the anxiety/panic that sets in which aggravates the cycle. Read a lot of informative things today, including this forum. I was relieved to read that 'gas' could be the cause, frankly -- my instincts/experience was telling me that but I needed some affirmation. At 47, I felt it was more likely related to hormones -- and perhaps that is a factor, too. For what it's worth, relaxing music or a move seems to help. And I'm supposing exercise would, too, but it concerns one to exercise during a fluttering episode ~ :(. Keep the experiences flowing, folks. Knowledge is power and comfort. idea

Ive had heart palpatations for 20 t years. Thought it was the smoking, the food I ate, drinking. Well none of that was it. Had them mostly sitting down or laying in bed. Anyways about 2 years ago I decided to lift wieght for exercise. I bought some deer antler velvet off the inernet and after taking them my palps completly stopped. So for almost 2 years I had none. I was finally excited after years of the torment of the pulps. Well about 3 weeks ago I ran out of velvet and thought I will get some later, well the pulps returned and for 3 weeks I was trying to figure out why I had them again, changed food, drink rxc, But ended up purchasing more southern cross velvet and in 2 days they stopped. hmmm dont really know whats in it but it truly works on pulps.

I think I have something similar happening. I feel extremely nervous when I feel gaseous and get palpitations. It almost always goes away when I burp a lot; but makes me very afraid as the symptoms seem to be similar to an heart attack (except there is no pain anywhere in the body). On top of that if I have exercised recently or slept weird and have a pain in my shoulders or if they are a little tight i feel even more scared and get an anxiety attack. I also feel very thirsty and sometimes even if I walk or drink club soda I don't burp immediately and it is very inconvenient and scary!
My HR doesn't go above 110, but I usually feel the heart pumping and my BP also is not unusually high during these episodes (generally about 130/80).

I'm very glad I found this little thread, and thank you all for sharing your experiences and symptoms. I've been going out of my mind trying to figure out what the hell is causing these attacks I've been having over the last 8-9 months, and I've identified with just about everything that's been mentioned here.

My doctor, he's a good guy genuinely, but I don't think he has the experience or knowledge to deal with the facts of hat I've been going through, which are constant anxiety, palpitations (which I've had for 12 years now), constipation and in some extreme cases, a feeling of dread and doom coming over me that literally feels like death taking over. He's referred me on to a psychologist and CBT training (cognitive behavioural therapy) when I've been telling him all along that I genuinely believe everything is linked to how I have difficulty maintaining a normal bowel movement, plain and simple. I normally go once every 3-4 days which I'm pretty sure is very wrong.

Hi, just found this thread so i'll give my experiences here.
I'm an extremely active 38 year old male, I've been experiencing palpitations now for some 10 years brought about by what I think at the time was severe indigestion (a cucumber in a peanut satay is what I have narrowed it down to which gave acid re-flux for several days) at the start the palpitations or 'flutters' led to increased anxiety and what I can only think were panic attacks(horrible things!!!!), and possible depression partly due to not knowing what was going on and fruitless trips to the doctor.
During the past 10 years I've had ECG's 7 day Monitors, was given warfarin, betablockers and took aspirin under doctors instruction but now don't take anything as I have managed to almost completely control the symptoms.
I find that when I get a flutter I can relieve it belching or twisting, diet is the main control I've found that for me cutting out all caffeine and removing wheat from my diet as this was causing my stomach to bloat (I'm not gluten intolerant, just wheat, I found to my surprise as this was the main factor also was the reason for my constant upset stomach, which I had endured for years and practically healed overnight!) creating gas and bloating triggering the palpitations, I also take time to relax these have helped no end.
Now I know how to control my palpitations 99% of the time it means I the confidence to enjoy life more, it can be a vicious circle getting palpitations then worrying about them which triggers stress then more palpitations just hang in there and try a bit of self help (no drink, illegal drugs or smoking) see the doctor, isolate foods that bloat you or try eating little and often, cut out caffeine, and relax listen to some soothing music its amazing how simple things can have a profound effect.

Hi, I am deaf and 52 yrs old. I started my paps since Oct. and I have 2 meds that help but not helpful. But one med that will help me to sleep.

I read your stories and it was interesting to learn. I do have gas and dividers titis that may cause the paps. Any advise? One story that I read your story that I will try that. I need to read again tomorrow. I appreciated your input and feedback.

I will explain my story about how my paps started. Last August 2013, it started with my muscle pull on my back. a week later, I went to ER room to check up, dr gave me a med for muscle relaxer, few days later, the pain was going down to my low back and felt numb and pain and cant sleep well.. went to the prompt clinic and dr gave me two meds for pain and muscle relaxers. it was getting better and able to sleep some. Last Oct. 2013, the palps pop up  and cant sleep good. Went to Er room to check up my heart. it was fine... gave me one med for high blood pressure. 3 days later, I went to see my dr. he said that I had a anxiety that caused the palps. gave me two meds for depression and anxiety and help to sleep. So I research on the interent to find out about palps. found one that helped me but not working.. found here and read  it.. that will try to do differenty from your ideas and expriences. I will be appreicated to hear from you. hope to hear from your feedback. thanks

I'm so glad that I found this site. I'm 34 yr, Female. I had my gallbladder taken out almost 2 1/2 yrs ago after going on a strict no carb/no sugar diet, one day at work I was sitting at my desk and suddenly my heart felt like it was coming out of my chest (this was VERY soon after the surgery) I took my heart rate with a wrist blood pressure cup and it was 180. Of course, I totally freak out and run to the ER because I thought I was going to die. They of course could find nothing as the racing heart had stopped, all my blood work came back normal and I was told that I had anxiety issues. I have never felt "anxious" in my life. I was referred to a cardiologist who game me an echo/stress test/halter monitor, etc. all of which came back normal. I kept eating no carbs/no sugar because this of course was how I lost my weight and I wanted to keep on that track, I didn't have any rapid heart beats for a while and then when I had forgot about them BAM, I'd have one, go back to the ER and was told the same thing again. Right before I got married last year I had an episode in the middle of a shoe store and I thought for certain that I was about to go knocking on the "pearly gates", they called an ambulance and once at the hospital I explained my symptoms yet again and was handed this white chalky stuff called a "GI cocktail", WOW what a difference that made, instantly my stomach calmed down, the feeling that I was going to kill over disapated and the pain in my left side went away. I was asked what I ate the prior day. I told the doctor (can't remember now) and he suggested maybe going to the GI doctor about "gluten".
Go to the GI doc, he wanted to do all these "tests" to confirm, costs ranging in the 2k's and I was like "....no" I'll just try the "Gluten Free" diet. This worked... for a while. From August to December no racing heart, occasional "thumps" but, nothing I got concerned over... then the day after Christmas, which I can probably blame on "family cooking" I found myself back in the ER with a severe migraine and episode of heart palps, again told to follow up w/ the GI doctor. January through just this Monday have been good with a brief trip to the ER Monday morning for just the over all feel of dread, chest pains on the left side and I freaked myself out so badly that I began to have the racing heart.
After reading everyones input I find that I'm not going insane, this is a real thing... I'm not crazy, but, I need help. I barely eat processed foods, normally the same foods on a weekly basis. I do drink 1-2 glasses of red wine a night but, normally I stick to a pretty good diet.
Any suggestions of clearing this up w/ out medication or a "detox"?

Heya, kinda late to post in here, but thanks for the advice and info. on these weird pulps. Mine only started a few days back, (coincidentally, I'm 16) but, i was terrified at first, thinking of the worst reasons as to why i had them. Haven't had a doctor check yet, but the info. on it being gas-related and the ways to help prevent and manage it really helped so far, and I've only tried these for 2 days now. I'll probably try to colon cleanse thing and hope for the best. Thanks again for the help, really hoping they go away soon. Nice to know that I'm not alone on this.

Hi Sheen,

Mine started at about 15 years old, nearly 40 years ago. They come and go. It's best if you have a doctor check you out first, they can be related to levels of electrolytes or other factors that can be shown with blood tests. Having an EKG is probably advised too. The vast majority if these things are harmless, though annoying, but being seen by a doctor would be best. How many to you get? How often?

I have had this problem for decades. PVCs, hypertension, tacycardia, skipped beats and lightheadedness. It took me ages to relate it to GI and gas. It happens mainly after eating and is instantly relieved by belching. After years of researching everything from vagus nerve tone to PH and the likes, i came accross a known syndrome that im surprised doctors dont even know about. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roemheld_syndrome

i have almost the same symptoms. They tell me I have afib and i am not sure that that is what it is. I take a low dose of a beta blocker but i think it is something hormonal i am 61 yrs old and think it has to do with menopause and hormones. it happened back in my 40's but didn't last. just a few episodes and then went away.Now i can't get rid of it. but i always have had a problem with too much gas in my stomach.hope it goes away again! scary! i also have always had a lot of anxiety! But this makes it worse! Let me know if you find anything! good luck

I also have had episodes of what they tell me is afib.They say my heart is fine but my blood is too thick doesn't make much sense to me but i do get scared when i get it! Taking magnesium and some other vitamins to try and stop it.also take a low dose of beta blocker to slow down my heart rate so it is not too fast when it starts out of sync! I think it has to do with excess gas in my stomach and is almost always triggered by eating.unless it is a food allergy which is also possible They say i should eventually take blood thinners but i don't think i will i take baby aspirin every night.that is enough.no more meds!hoping it will go away as mysteriously as it came! I was in the same condition 2 years before gas from stomach to heart and heart rate become too much fast and i start feeling anxiety. I consult with a doctor after several investigations he found nothing but gastric disorders. Then I start boiled vegetables, fruits no oil except olive oil no red meats. I made this practice for 3 months and i am perfectly alright.

I get also palpitations (PVCs/PACs) more frequently when I have lots of gas. I never had them before I had SIBO!

You mentioned that heart monitors and EKGs haven't picked up any palpitations. Have you tried a 30 day loop or event monitor?

This is the first time I've ever posted about a health concern. I am very glad to have found this site and this particular thread. I've been having a "flutter" sensation in my chest and belly for a few weeks accompanied by hot flashes and/or cold flashes. Yesterday, I had a sudden dizzy spell along with a severe hot flash, which triggered my very first, and really long, heart palpatations. It lasted nearly two hours and my heartrate, which is 64 baseline, went up to 80. I know this is still in the normal range but it really was a scary feeling. This morning I was fine and went into work. Right after lunch, I had another episode of hot flashes with palpitations, this time even more severe. My hr went from the mid 60s to 112 within an hour. I had my boss drive me to the ER (I'm very close to one, thank goodness) and they did the ekg, thyroid and metabolite panels, cbc, etc, and found nothing abnormal. Although they ruled out most serious illnesses, they couldn't say what caused these episodes. I'm a very healthy 40 year old woman with little stress (normal stress levels, I would say) and I'm very relaxed and easy going for the most part. I tend to dwell illnesses and I recognize that this may be anxiety associated with being a slight hypochondriac (as my husband calls me) and of course the ER dr's said they couldn't rule it out, but again, they didn't know the cause. I'm following up with my PCP next week or sooner. I was wondering...I've been reading that these symptoms can also manifest in a woman entering early menapause (perimenapausal symptoms)? I know I am still young but my mother-in-law entered perimenapause by the time she was in her mid 30s. Unfortunately, my own mother has passed away and had a hysterectomy at age 42(ish). Does anyone know if palpatations can result from hot flashes due to perimenapause? Has anyone been diagnosed as perimenapausal and have had these palpations with hot flashes (and/or) sometimes without the flashes? I also have reflux and am bloated so there's another variable....

Similar story here....
The day began much the same as any other. 35min commute to work, Monster energy drink in hand, tackling pile of overnight emails and phone calls. No particularly unusual stress or anxiety. I stood up at my desk and my heart seemed to launch into some kind of Rush drum solo and I fainted. Took a ride to the ER where they found absolutely nothing wrong. Followed up with a cardiology appointment and a "million dollar" workup (blood, imaging, stress tests, etc.) No joy. Doctors told me I needed to "reduce my stress" and "Stay off the energy drinks."
I went to a GI doc who did a similarly complete workup (upper/lower) and he found that I had "a minor hiatal hernia" and wrote me a script for GI cocktail. That was the only thing that seemed to relieve the chest discomfort. NONE of them made the connection between the GI problems and the heart flutters. I was mildly annoyed when it was suggested that I try taking an anxiety medication.

Found this post after Googling "GI problems that cause heart palpitations"... Still living (thank Heaven) with the discomfort to this day and hoping to find relief as it has become very distracting. After reading the posts above, I am encouraged that such a day may come soon.

Hi guys I am 42 years old women and have four kids i have same symptoms that my heart is beating very fast and i feel iam going to die but it happen when ever i have gas problem as it gone i feel fine but when ever i went to dr to chk my problem they said gas can not cause heart palpitation

I also have a minor hiatal hernia. I wonder if there's some connection between hiatal hernia and heart palpitations.

PM_Dave, if your palpitations make you faint you should probably ask your cardiologist for a 30 day event monitor or an implanted loop monitor, just to make sure the fainting episodes are not caused by something serious. If your cardiologist refuses to do further testing or tells you to take anxiety meds, get a second opinion.

Ok all I'm going to say is I have these symptoms too and they are scary. Anxiety sets in and I have been to the ER three times this year, 3 EKG's, 2 holter monitors, and a heart sonogram. Everything is normal they say, but it feels like I'm going to die any minute. So all of you that have written something...you have it too, now please write what you do to get rid of it.

I can now say that my palps are gone.

In my post I told you I was suffering with very strange bouts of gas, and diarrhea, also having lots of other problems along the way. I was told I was suffering from IBS and Anxiety by doctors, but I always felt like there was an underlying problem or that I was fixable.

First of all they were trying to get me to take Anxiety medication on top of IBS problems. When you're suffering from IBS or any intestinal problems for that matter you SHOULD NOT take any type of prescription medication unless you were previously taking it, or it's a life and death situation, but adding anxiety medication on to my already upset stomach made everything WORSE. It unbalanced my intestinal flora and made me nauseous, I was not having regular bowl movements for days at a time, and I was feeling EXTREMELY miserable, BUT I do believe I've found a cure for myself.

After being told twice that there was nothing I could do, just deal with my IBS and palps, and try to eat healthy yahta yahta, I quickly changed doctors again and again until I found one that didn't just write me off. My new doctor took the regular blood/stool/urine tests and said that all my results were coming up normal but that she wasn't going to write me off, she asked a lot of questions and finally suggested I look into holistic remedies because she felt I should not be taking the anxiety medication if it's making the original problem worse. She told me that possibly looking into doing holistic remedies I could over come my IBS easily. By that statement alone I have started to realize that many western doctors are not really interested in "curing" you, just interested in getting you to come back to pay for more drugs, appointments, etc. I don't know about you, but I don't want to have to take medication unless I really need it, and this time I really didn't.

I looked up holistic remedies for IBS and palpitations and began asking around and doing a lot of research with holistic healers/doctors/nutritionists etc. I found out that a lot of times palps, gerd, gas, and acid reflux can come from toxic build up's in your colon due to how we defecate incorrectly. Humans were made to hunch over and squat down to eliminate our bowls to help push everything out, but because we sit up-right on top of a toilet and eat a lot of junk foods all of it gets built up and stuck in our intestines causing a build up of bacteria ultimately causing things like gas, gerd, and palps.

*Please note that if you have a hiatal hernia or other complication like it, this is not the approach for you, and stick with your doctors advice*

I started with a natural colon cleanse called The Ultimate Cleanse to flush out any built up toxins I may have. I did a 2 week cleanse and within only a couple of days my gas, my palps, and my acid reflux came to a halt. I also started as advised on an all-organic diet, removing all processed sugars, breads, yeasts etc. For two weeks during the cleanse I ate raw and steamed organic veggies, eggs in any style, and low fat meats only. After the two week detox I started to introduce things back into my system but slowly. Now I continue to eat only organic foods that are not processed, and do not contain MSG, Aspartame, or other synthetic ingredients. I also stay away from sodas, instead I go for organic ginger ale, and I do occasionally drink coffee but only from organically grown beans. I do not drink dairy from cows milk because I've always had an intolerance with it so I use goats milk products or soy products instead. One thing I have added to my diet is an ancient fermented tea called Kombucha. You drink 1 bottle/12oz a day, which puts good yeasts, Vitamin B's, and live probiotics back into your intestines. It also helped me to start growing back my hair, and I feel less hungry and get less crazy cravings for high sugar/carb meals. I am happy to say that I am now palp and IBS free for 2 months. I have only had one very small palp about 2 weeks ago after indulging in a very heavy carb filled meal at a friends house that mostly likely wasn't organic products.

So I don't know about your situation or what you've tried or been told to do, but you may want to give some of this a try...if not all of it, just try a colon cleanse, because for me the colon cleanse was one missing ingredient. I had tried the yeast free diet thinking it was Candida, which was basically what I was eating during the detox; just veggies, eggs, and meat, and still I would get the palps and gas. After I was advised to try it again but organically, and with the cleanse is when it changed. It couldn't hurt to try it, and it may work for you too, because I seriously tried EVERYTHING I found information about. I went to see numerous doctors, had numerous tests, (and paid tons of bills) tried numerous diets, tried exercising 5 days a week, and took vitamins and minerals thinking maybe I was deficient in some area, and it just went on and on and on, and all the gas and palps were still there everyday. Now, I felt better with no anxiety, no upset stomach issues, I never feel bloated or sick anymore, and I feel like I honestly got my life back.

-Take an organic over the counter colon cleanse or colon detox kit once or twice a year as needed. (do not use more than 1 month at a time) until your bowl movements are back to 2-3 regular movements per day.

-During detox eliminate all processed foods, carbs, and sugars for at least 2-4 weeks; eating only organic veggies, organic meats, and organic antibiotic free eggs.

-Take a comprehensive liquid organic vitamin daily- found in most health/vitamin store.

-Try to stay away from too much yeast & alcohol during and after the cleanse. (beer, wine, liquor, breads, pastries, etc)

-After your detox period is over slowly introduce new things into your diet like organic breads - fruits - fiber cereals - oatmeal, one at a time 2 or 3 times a week at most.

-Exercise regularly - take a 45 min yoga class, do 30 mins at the gym, take a bike ride, or at least just a brisk walk up and down your street - 3-4 times a week.

-Eat only organic foods free of processed ingredients, MSG, Aspartame, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, antibiotics, etc.

-Drink 1 12 oz. Kombucha bottle a day for 1 month and notice a HUGE difference after or during your detox! (can be found at most organic food markets like Henry's or Whole Foods, or online at www.kombucha2000.com) Buy the brands made in dark brown bottles as it preserves the live yeast better. It tastes much like a sweetened apple cider, and it may be a bit strange and not what you're used to at first but after a few tries it's amazing!

JakiB-Would really like to know how you are doing today. It has been a few years. Many others have shown up with similar symptoms. It is driving me nuts. I'm only 39, recently changed my diet, lost a bunch of weight and cut out caffeine. Still having palps.

Also when you obsess over them the palps get worse, remember, when they happen they are benign they wont kill you people on the anxiety forum sight have been living with them for 25 yrs and it hasnt killed them!! Breathe deeply through your nose hold it count of four and breathe out your mouth, cleansing calming breathes. Four counts for about 10 minutes or more, relaxing shoulders. Take yoga and meditation like Tai Chi, Chi Gung. Calm your mind. I hope the things that have helped me will help u. By the way, my gastritis would start my palpitations. I would feel like my heart was jumping out of my chest. I know how you feel exactly.



Thank you for posting this I have the dancing heart too I have GERD and I think IBS although I have not been diagnosed yet, but when I have a flare up of GERD with constipation I have heart flutters, and it feels as if my heart pauses then I will feel a bubbling or gurgling of flatulence, this is such a terrible feeling I am having a flare up as I type

I've had the palpitation problem for twenty plus years and recently worsening then discovered eating yogurt when I get up seems to end it for the day. I can only speculate why and hope this helps someone else too.

Hello everyone,

This is basically to let you all know you are not alone. I do get them as well. I feel palpitations, get scared and immediately feel the need to go to the bathroom or get extremely gassy. This is particularly uncomfortable when I am outside of my house at work or college. However, I've been feeling this way for over 3 years now. It made me develop anxiety and panic attacks which do not allow me to go out as often as I would like to. All I can do is relax when I get them. I am more used to it now, I try to think straight and don't panic. It is still scary, but I just think it out, hug the feeling and think that this is not the first time I felt it and definitely not the last. Even if you manage to control it it will happen every once in a while. It has a lot to do with our personalities. Sometimes I even think of the possibility of it not being heart palpitations, but probably a spasm in the esophagus or something. All the other symptoms come right after I feel the pounding in my chest and get scared.

I hope this helps. I want to let you all know that we most likely will not die from anything related to that.

Jakib and everybody thank you VERY much for this post. I did not even consider that I can have heart problems because of gases. I knew how to do 'vacuum exercises' and thanks to them I'm 'stable' now and managed to get rid of the panic and moderate my problem so far, once again a BIG THANK YOU !

I am glad that this post is here! Reading the "lengthy" post about the gas related heart palps and nervousness is exactly what I'm going through right now. It's exactly what I needed. I'm glad that I'm not alone in this struggle.

Hi I've suffered from a rapid heart beat that is on set by various things such as bending over quickly, jumping or sudden movement and occasionally by gas....I went to many doctors and they kept telling my I had anxiety. I knew they were wrong. I finally went to a cardiologist and asked them to check me for SVT...and they put me on a heart monitor for three weeks...sure enough that was it. They gave me the option to take medication for it but I declined, since my case was not dangerous. My doctor thought me helpful ways to make the episodes stop on their own. One simple way is to take a deep breath in with out exhaling and baring down like you are going to the bathroom until it stops...you may need to do it more then once. Hope this helps.

I've had palps (PVCs) for decades, with ECG's going back the to 80's. I remember my high school girlfriend noticing them. For me they are entirely related to food triggers, gas, bloating, and GERD. I can shut them off with burps, cold water, TUMS, anti-gas chewables, etc. And I have a cardiologist, and he's given me the all clear. My blood work looks beautiful. My palps are entirely, completely, nutrition related. If I eat the wrong stuff, they come on. If I starve myself or skip a meal, it seems the smallest thing will bring them on. If I don't stay hydrated, they are worse than they need to be.

Also, the newer ECG carts spit out an entirely computer generated diagnosis. Don't always trust it. I had one ECG readout at my regular doctor's say I was in Afib, and I felt like a million bucks. My cardiologist was sent the trace and he laughed at it. Trust your cardiologist over your regular doctor.

Here are my management strategies:

Every day habits:
Drink 90+ oz of water each day
One run of the mill multivitamin
One probiotic supplement
450 mg Magnesium (Triple Calm), spread out over the day
Coenzyme Q10
Always balance sodium and potassium as close as possible
Keep sodium to 2400-3000 per day. Once in a while I've done 4000 in one day, with no adverse effects, but I try to keep the lid at 2400 just to keep my blood pressure at bay.
Always be trying to lose weight.
Avoid slouching and bending, and avoid compressing the stomach (such as crawling on your stomach)
Avoid the food triggers (for me, it's fast food, pizza, cake, peppers, oily food)

Nutrition plan that seems to keep them at bay (if not gone, then completely unnoticeable):
Never over eat
Never eat just simple carbs (pastry, donuts, cake)
Never overdo it with oil and fats
Always eat fruits and veggies, every single day. I eat 2 apples and an orange a day, minimum, plus a big spinach salad.
Spread meals out to 5-6 meals a day (200-600 cal/meal, never more)
Never skip a meal
Avoid restaurant food like the plague, but when it's necessary, plan ahead to manage sodium and fat content
Keep backup emergency meal somewhere in the truck or house: protein bar, shake, shake mix, etc, so I never, ever miss a meal
Always balance protein/carb/fat in each meal around 35/45/20-ish (i.e., always have a protein)
Never try a starvation diet (for me, male 250 lb, that means never less than 1700 cal/day more than once)

Bag of tricks to make them go away:
Try antigas chewables if bloated, then move around, do twists, walk, anything, but get up and get moving, even if it's 2 am
Burp. Burps make my palps disappear instantly.
TUMS if I feel a hint of GERD
Pint of ice cold water, in one shot
Eat a small meal, like an apple and a cheese stick
Valsalva maneuver
Nose breathing to calm down, if needed
4-4-8 breathing to calm down, if needed

Years ago, my doctor said this was caused by me swallowing air while drinking fluids, mostly. He suggested I always use a straw when drinking beverages/water. As long as I do this, I rarely have this issue. Hope this helps!

I have been having palpatations ,bad for the past year. Have had EKGs, blood work , Gallbladder removed, and recently had a Fundoplication procedure done. Have suffered with acid reflux real bad ,so the fundoplication fixed that problem, but still have the palpatations, I also will get them just sitting, or bending over, and yes mine also flare up around 8 pm I dread going to bed ,I'm tired and within minutes, BOOM they flare up , and then up I am. The Dr. has called this Dumping syndrome . It's when your food passes to quickly through your stomach ,and immediatly turns to sugar.. So Laying down right after you eat, for a half hour, do not drink any liguids half hour before meals and half hour after.. Ya that sucks, but if you do need to just a sip.. This works great, not always convienent, I just had a colonoscopy done and found I have diverticulitus, I have changed my diet so immenslly, that i cheat myself out of alot of goodies. I have been told in bold letters NO IT IS NOT YOUR HEART.. it feels like it is.. Your not alone, i hope what lil i have posted will help someone suffering with these issues, feed back would be great.. Good luck to all out there suffering with this annoying problem..

I experience palpitation in stomach, followed by increase in heart beats every now and then. Often after meals. I found out the cure after 3 months, surprisingly simple!

When you wake up in the morning, before coming out of bed, take your fingers and try to locate the palpitation on the stomach area where you usually feel it by pressing your fingers little deep. Once you locate it, firmly pressing the fingers, slowly move that palpitation over the navel and keep your fingers pressed there (over the navel) for couple of minutes. Then slowly get up and start your day!

Keep doing this for few days and everything will be all set!

Do not lift heavy weights!
