Hi,

I have suffered with mould and cat allergies for the last 10 years (diagnosed only in last year) resulting in chronic rhinitis. I have a level of reaction currently all year, but the months of Aug-Feb are horrendous. I have to come home and sleep straight after work to get through the next day, and sleep/rest all weekend to get through the next week.

I have swollen nasal lining, facial migraine, burning, itching nose. But no real mucous or running, just the feeling of chronic swelling and pressure - constantly.

Because it's not life threatening it's not considered severe, but wholly effects my quality of life.

I've tried most things; OTC antihistamines, natural nasal sprays, steroid nasal sprays, antihistamine nasal sprays, betamethasone, naproxen (anti inflammatory), fexofenadine, migraine medicines... the list goes on.

Has anyone tried anything effective, other than the usual, for mould allergies?

Has anyone had immunotherapy? Is there anywhere good for this either NHS or privately in the UK?

I'm desperate to find something that works now...

Thanks!

I had good results for several years with immunotherapy (shots). Eventually I didn't get such good results and I was put on montelukast (Singulair) because my allergist says I have asthma, which I don't necessarily agree.

So now I just get my PCP to write for Singulair and I'm pretty good. It helps when i take it with my pain meds before I get out of bed in the morning.

I was dismissed because I no longer take the shots. OK, fine. PCP will write for Singulair.

I do think the years on the shots was the trick. It built up my system so that i now tolerate cats, mold, lots of stuff. At least for now. If it gets bad I will go back to the shots. they are very effective and tolerable.

Talk to an allergist. Some are very good. Get a board certified one. It makes a difference.

When my grandsons' cat comes up to my house for food when they go on vacation, she sleeps on my legs. I used to be very allergic to cats. But they're lots easier to take care of than dogs or kids. I really love being able to take care of her .
