Hi, everyone.
I am always reading the posts, being new here and all, I have so much to learn still.  You guys are really great the way you support each other.  I hope as I learn more, I will be able to support and give advice, too!  I just feel so GREEN right now!
Anyway, I am on my 5th month of MTX-6 pills once a week-I am still having swelling in my hands, wrists, and knees.  My hubby who never comments even said...what wrong with your fingers??  Thanks, huh?  I had one really bad swollen a while back and did have my regular DR check it since he was faster to get into than the Rheumy and he said..yep, you still have arthritis.  That is why I like him...straight and to the point with a bit of sarcasm and humor.
On the MTX, should I still have the swelling like I do?  Sometimes, I even have to take my watch off and it used to be loose on me (not gaining weight-losing actually-MTX makes me queasy).  Also, since I started taking it, I seem to have more migraines.  about once every week now instead of every couple weeks.  Anyone else have that?  Also, my hands and wrists seem to get more stiff as the afternoon wears on...shouldn't they loosed up?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.  Thank you and have a great week!

Hi there,

Welcome to the crazy group here at HW...I don't think we "met" yet, but have seen some of your posts...  Are you on any other meds besides the mtx?  What you are describing all sounds real normal to me, unforunately.  But I'm sure someone else will come along with their input, too.  When do you see your rheumy again?  Personally, I think I would write down all your questions and observations, and go over it all at your next visit.  Maybe he will either add something or change your meds.

My hands and wrists swell like that, especially at the end of the day...I think that is just the inflammation from the arthritis. But, if it's especially bothersome, please talk to you doc about it.  I also found myself a little more prone to headaches on the mtx, especially a day or so after my dose.  It helps to drink extra fluids...water...or I like de-caf green tea.  I was diagnosed almost a year ago, an were still trying to get the meds adjusted. I am much better than I was at first....but got a ways to go.
Hope this helps a little...please keep us posted..and ask away....we're all here to help if we can!
Take care,

Hi Isabellesmommy,

I agree with Jody. Sounds like it may be time to consider additional treatment. Are you currently taking any other Meds for your RA?

Your symptoms and experiences sound very familiar. Please discuss your ongoing symptoms with your rheumatologist and good luck.

Yes. I agree with the others. Sometimes it takes multiple meds to really get this disease under control. Your rhuemy is the best person to help you decide what is next.

Thanks for the input, everyone.  I have an appt with the Rheumy on the 28th of this month.  I will definately discuss it then.  I am on no other meds for this, just the MTX.  Have a great day!
